The *Official* Eve Online Thread

The total number number of players seems to have increased since I left last year but nowhere seems busier if anything quieter. So does that total number include Dust players?

wheres quieter? people are more spread out now even in empire because theres no real mission hubs anymore

Good point actually yep that may explain things. Was just wondering if the spike was due to Dust players - good if it's not more meat for the grinder (not for dust though if 10k is all they've got).

There was a great article a while back about the Chinese server and how they have effectively just formed a massive single alliance where they all effectively work together.

Yeh I was thinking that earlier, but couldn't remember. Glad I wasn't imagining it :p

One massive alliance controlling everything = yawn :p

Yeah remember reading Jita on the Chinese server has like 64 players in local at peak and the main trade hub was deep in low or null :|

It is soooo tempting to start playing this. I've had a couple of 14 day trials but this game requires you to dedicate so much time that I wouldn't get anything out of it. Shame because to me, this is what a true MMO is. How many hours a week approximately do you lot spend playing Eve? Yes, I'm trying to convince myself to get involved :o

I've cut right down recently.. 3-4 hours a week at the moment, if that. Although I've had a lot of fun tonight so might make it more regular again...

That's not much at all. I guess the initial stages of developing your character is what requires a lot of time to be invested, unless you want to develop really slowly of course.

hmmm....

Yeh it really depends how you want to play it. As you can imagine, if you only play a few hours a week at the start you are potentially going to have moments where you aren't training skills optimally, you won't be making as much money etc. But if you don't mind the game being drawn out further then it's not a problem.

Thinking back the first month was probably some of the most fun I've had on Eve. An entirely new universe that I knew nothing about, no idea how to fit ships properly. If you are only playing casually at first I would really recommend NOT using EFT or getting ship fits recommended to you. The game was far more exciting in general when you weren't just flying cookie cutter fits because they have the best stats. I still remember flying a shield tanked Coercer, with arty for long rang targets, pulse lasers for mid range and blasters for upclose targets. Not to mention a tractor beam and a smartbomb! :p

Awesome fit!

As a new character you can have a nosy around with a degree of impunity most people will leave you alone and you can see what it's all about. And the risk rewards mechanics mean you can do truly fun and stupid stuff without any consequences.
