Anyone use one on their bike?

Been thinking about getting one for mine,But they seem pretty expensive £80-100+

Anyone know of any cheaper?..like a lot cheaper? :D

Want one as its a gadget? Or for thefts.
Surly a lock and insurance will be far better.

Seems a bit of a waste, unless you have something that would cost insane amounts to insure(and these reduce premium significantly and as such you save more than the cost of the tracker) which I'm assuming is unlikely.

@jono,Not quite sure what you mean here.

My bike cost £350,Which i know isnt THAT expensive when it comes to bikes as they can go ££££.

Id like to see how many miles i do over a period of time, and of course have the peace of mind if it gets stolen i can track the buggers and beat the hell out of them (or contact the police) :D

Use you phone and a bike phone mount. A pound or two for the best app, £15 for a waterproof-protective mount, extra if you want to add heart rate or other sensors. If you don't have a smart phone, then but a smart phone with that £100 far more useful.
Just insure it.

You are asking for a tracker like one for tracing cars? Rather than for logging miles and fitness... Like say a Garmin or a smartphone app like Strava.

If its the first, you can buy a transponder chip quite cheaply from a company which deals in bike security, I forget their name. You glue the pill sized chip inside the frame and then if the Police find it, they can scan it for your info.

I don't know of any kind of satallite tracking type device. Surely anything like that would be large and far too obvious.

.

You can get ones that do both, I think that's what he's talking about.

They fit in the seat tube, or handlebar or headstock.
No screen but can download the data to a pc, to track your route.

Insurance, cheaper and better chance of replacment.

Quoted for truth, my £800 mountain bike got nicked in a break-in a few years ago. The insurance cost about £6-7 a month, I'd only had the bike 6 months when it was nicked so I'd paid £42 in premiums.

They paid out in full within a week of the claim being made.

When the police recovered the bike a further 6 months down the line I was then able to buy the bike back off the insurance company for £100 rather than have them scrap it.

If your bike is distinctive, keep on at police to keep an eye out. The "pro-active street team" (plain clothes officers basically) had been given a briefing and photo a week before because I'd kept on at the local office that it had been seen in the area.

I couldn't find anything cheaper than that price when I was looking.
The one that interested me looked like the part where your handlebars join to the frame.

Would require battery and some way of concealing it on the frame.

Search for Mini GPS Real Time Vehicle Tracker on ebay. I haven't received mine yet but it was the smallest GPS tracker I could find. The others just looked too big to hide on a bike.

A tracker for a £350 bike? Just add it to your home insurance or get it insured generally if you're worried and you have to chain it up a lot outside in dodgy areas/overnight. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

What kind of idiot companies scrap an £800 bike? No wonder insurance premiums are so high.

What would they do with it otherwise. Can you imagine AXA having car boot sales to dispose of recovered property they have already paid out on?

They dont scrap it physically they sell bulk lots of recovered property to auction companies for poor pence in the pound.

Its all admin and a pain for them to deal with.

I have tried really hard to find a place I could hide this device and a battery on my bike.
