so, basically title says it all,

i have a decent desk,
wanting to get another monitor,
not sure if it'll fit, so best decision is to get a dual mounting bracket on the desk to hold 2 monitors

anyone have any recommendations? or shall i randomly pick one from the web??

I bought an "own brand" one, from a retailer in Bolton. Don't know what the situation is though with regards to linking to competitor products, so I won't. It was basically a twin monitor desktop stand, for less than "some pounds" (based on another thread, I can't even mention the price  ), decent build quality, lots of adjustment options etc... I honestly wish I had bought one of these ages ago, because it's so much better.

Takes up to 24" monitors, but I think the bigger you go, the less you can angle them towards you. I have two 20", and it's perfect.

A lot of sites have competitor paranoia, and have the same rules. They usually have a PM system though, but I can't even do that here... sorry.

If you search for "Dual Monitor Stand" in Google, you'll find it easy enough. The same stand is sold by another retailer too.

You could probably mention the brand name of something, unless the brand name just happens to be the name of the retailer that sells it. E.g. if there was a "Joe-Bloggs Dual Monitor Stand" (*disclaimer: Joe-Bloggs is not a real shop name), you'd be mentioning the Joe-Bloggs shop/site. But if it was an Ergotron stand, then you could probably mention that.

I just tried to draw it in ASCII art, but you can't. :D

In a way I understand it, because they want you to spend money on this site... but forums are supposed to be helpful, and I sometimes don't think rules like this help anyone. It would be like Google stopping you from using their search engine, to find any other tablet than the Nexus. You'd just use a different search engine.

I buy wherever is cheapest (although not with this stand it would seem, as I found it cheaper after :(), and wherever sells the items that suit my needs best.

But hey, we all had to agree to the rules when we registered, so I will do my best to abide by them. Can't say I won't complain about them though.

lol, i hear ya,

i mean, i was gonna purchase a monitor from OCUK anyways,

all i need was a cheap enough monitor stand so that i could spend more and get a better monitor.

so, either way, they're still getting the money. lol

doing this make me think more, and hesitate on what im buying really, not good =/

Here's a totally anonymous image of the stand I have. There are no details or connections linked to this image, just in case the paranoia police check. Even the filename is nondescript.

Edit: If you can't see the picture, it's probably between 1am and 10am. This is on my own server, which goes offline between those times.

haha nice, i was actually gonna get this one xD

but are you sure it will sustain/manage? as it seems its likely the monitor may fall off at any point =/

I have my two NEC 20WGX2 Pros on it, and it's fine. I also had 2 NEC EA231WMis on it (before I sent them back), and they were fine. The two arms are locked by levers at the back, and because of how the weight is transferred on them, they're pretty solid. The long feet means that even with the two arms fully forward, it's perfectly stable, even with two 23" monitors on there.

well, thanks for your help, went and bought that exact same one. :D

hopefully its good.

now, in search of a 24" monitor!
Happy to help... just a pity we had to jump through so many hoops to get the relevant info across.

Hopefully, you'll have better luck than me with monitors. I bought and returned 5, then just gave up and stuck with what I have already got. It's so much hassle buying monitors, I hate it with a passion.

I have an artist's eye, mainly down to the fact that I worked in the games industry as an artist/programmer/designer for 26 years... so I am really picky over monitor quality.

I bought two Dell U2312HMs that had terrible IPS glow, so they went back the following day.

Then I bought two EA231WMIs off EBay, that were supposed to be in "As new condition", with "brand new" vesa stands. But they had image retention spots on them, and one of the stands was clearly old and used.

So I thought sod it, I'll just replace the faulty NEC 20WGX2 Pro that I have got (I have a matched pair), with a working version. Bought one of those, and that had massive image burn, in the same area as my faulty one... so that went back too.

I tend to spot things that other people don't see, or it doesn't bother them... a downside of the profession unfortunately. I just love these NEC monitors, they're just so hard to beat for quality... for me anyway.

I've read some positive things about that Benq, so it could be a good choice... especially for gaming. I don't game any more, so my only requirements are excellent colour reproduction and consistency, which means an IPS screen is a must. I like glossy screens though, and they're proving hard to find, in a vesa mount monitor, at the size I want.

i see, still, its a good profession to have, better to spot the flaws than not to spot anything..

i dont game either nowadays, i just...dont find games enjoyable now..
all i do is watch movies and music.
is an IPS monitor a better solution to watch movies? i care about quality of movie aswell, and can also tell if movies are in bad quality =/

I'd say yes, because the biggest advantage it gives you, is colour consistency across the screen. You also don't get colour shift, if you happen to move away from the sweet spot, like you do on TN or VA screens. In fact, with some screens, you can see colour shift across the screen, even if you are in the sweet spot. And I find that the bigger the screen, the bigger the colour shift problem is.

IPS screens are dropping massively in price, so unless you need/want a fast response time, or 3D, or 120Hz... I can't see any reason to go for anything less than IPS.

Of course, all that is my own personal view, and others may feel differently... I just don't see why anyone would compromise quality, if they don't need to.

i see, then would you suggest me a monitor i should go for? as i know nothing about IPS monitors lol...

Keeping within the same budget as the Benq you linked to, and staying with a 24" screen, you have two options:-

1) The DGM http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-005-DG

2) The Dell http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-052-DE

As for the quality of either, I honestly have no idea. You can probably find owners on the forums, that would give you better feedback. Always best to get the opinions of an actual owner to be honest.

From what I have discovered though, the only way you will know, is to order one, and send it back if it isn't the quality you want. It depends on how quickly you get fed up with that process, that will determine how many different monitors you try. If you can afford it, order one of each, and send back the one you like least... or both if you like neither. But at least it will give you chance to run them side by side to compare.

One thing I would suggest, and this is purely based on how I do things... is use your own cables. Not because they will be better, but because it means you don't have to open all the packaging on everything. The DSR does give you the power to try, but I always like to leave as much of the package intact if possible. Someone else will get your returned monitor, and I think it is best to make sure that what they get, is as near to untouched as possible... but that's just another of my quirky preferences.

When I bought my NEC 20WGX2 Pro monitors, I tried a pair of Dells, and a pair of LG monitors, before I chose the NECs. That was about 4 years ago, and I still can't find replacements that are as good as these are. I have tried twice to replace them, and each time have given up and stayed with them, despite one of them having bad image retention. Monitors are the hardest component to buy, they really are.
