Is it a complete no-no to put at plasma TV flat for even a short time?

The reason I ask is because I need to put my new TV up on the wall today and in order to do this I have to fit brackets to the back of it before attaching it to the wall mount. Naturally this is much easier to do when the television is lying flat.

Laying it flat on the floor to put a bracket on will be fine. It's transporting them flat that's risky. Just take some sensible precautions: Nothing on the floor that could scratch the panel or frame. Try not to lean to heavily on the back of the panel. Make sure your screws aren't overly long; you don't want them hitting the electronics or the back of the panel casing inside the TV.

I do this kind of thing for a living. When I am installing tend to lean the panel up against a sofa and then attach the bracket. I find it's easier because I'm not leaning over the panel or putting any excessive weight on the screwdriver.

when fitting brackets to plasma i tend to lean the box against a sofa, then the telly against a box, or just the telly against a sofa, no real need to lie it down.

I transported my TV flat on its back when I collected it in its box. Minimize the time and be gentle. The screen itself is under a big load when face down so something soft and wide to support it might not be a bad idea.

Was going to say, why do you need to put it on its front?

I've wall mounted three plasmas and always just rest the frame up against a sofa/bed/chairs etc. Absolutely no need to lay it face down, which as said puts a big strain on the frame to support the glass and components.

I laid the TV on a duvet on the floor while attaching the brackets to my 51inch Samsung. The do not laid flat advise is for transport where vibrations for the road may cause glass to flex and crack.

Just had a nice little piece of luck today. Saw that price reduction on HotUKdeals for the 50GT50 Panasonic to £799 and was gutted I had just bought the 42" at £749. Saw the 42 had also dropped to £625 so decided to put in a p/m with John Lewis and they have just credited my account back with £125. Only just read the comments to see they were ex-display! Luck doesn't usually go that way for me :-)
