*** The Official BlackBerry Z10 & Q10 Thread ***

Phones4u are doing it for £550 sim free. Your obviously a tad slow seeing as i posted this info a page or so back;).

See you at the bottom of the ocean.

Oh dear haters gonna hate by the looks of it. Simply put i dont think BB will sell many of these sim free, a lot of the sales will come from contracts...much like the Z10 although they sold like hot cakes when they were being sold for £480 sim free.

My personal opinion is that £500+ for the Q10 is too high, Blackberry should be pricing it lower or around the same price as the Z10 ie £480 or lower.

So I've got my Z10 and the keyboard is needing a bit of getting used to because of having a hardware keyboard for the past 18 months, but I can see me getting on well with it.

The only trouble I have is when the phone is on stand-by (powered on, screen off, on the desk) it is making a slight buzzing noise. But I have looked around on CrackBerry and other user seem to report the same problem. So hopefully nothing to worry about :)

Indeed, £550 is a rip off.

Yep just like £500+ for an iphone or the latest greatest Android handset is a rip off too.

Good stuff, any questions feel free to ask or ask in crackberry. Some of the guys there really are pretty knowledgeable.

I havent noticed any sort of buzzing sound with my z10 but that doesnt sound right and if you can get a replacement one.

SO fed up with windows phone and crap notifications etc to messages esp ones like whats app etc .
recommend i try the z10? also ordered a playbook so might be a good partnership?

Changed deals after voda retentions came up trumps!

£47/month, free phone, unlimited mins, unlimited texts, 4gb data - 12 month contract.

£564 overall cost where the cheapest sim free is £535.

Deal? :D

4gb data is going to be fabulous for tethering :)

Not a bad deal Hxc, i know you been after one for a long time. Id love to get one myself but im just loving my z10 far too much to go back to a QWERTY keyboard although saying that my missus is up for renewal and i know she has her eye on my Z10 but she also likes the keyboard on her 9790.
So i might get her a Q10, see if she likes it and also see if i like it and if i do then ill just give her my z10 and ill keep the q10 but im going to hate losing the bigger screen in all honesty.

I have indeed, and I'm pretty happy with the deal, got £100 off the up front price and data boosted from 1gb to 4gb... actually relatively impressed with vodafone retentions!

Well enjoy and do let us know how it works out for you, the Q10 i mean. Would be interested in your thoughts, ill have to see if i can track one down to have a play with it.

Has anyone got/had a play with the Q10. Apparently it's quite popular?

Yep it seems to be pretty popular, it was being sold in Selfridges the other day..they had 1000 units and were selling them for £580 and they all sold out in a matter of hrs from what i heard and read on crackberry.

Hxc from here has one ordered, dont know if he has got it yet or not. I, myself havent had a chance to see one in the flesh...was in CPW the other day but they didnt have any on display. Not sure if its out yet publically or not, ill get round to trying one out but at the moment im keeping my Z10 as i prefer it with the bigger screen and losing the physical keyboard hasnt been too much of a loss mainly because the Z10 keyboard is the best ive used on any touch screen device at the moment.

Well i got my Z10 about 4 days ago , and i love it , comming from a nokia 920 the speed of the gesture system is amazing . i also love speed apps like whats app etc opens. On windows phone it is very slow and buggy.

And like wise i find the onscreen keyboard to be great , far better than any others i have seen.

The settings menus are the only thing that lets it down jerky movment etc.
Will they ever write the settings menu instead of using adobe air?

Also when is the 10.1 update due? , i cant modifiy the apn settings (usa sim card they use atand t but its a piggyback company so the apn needs accessed)it must be the sim thats locked as when i put in uk tmobile sim it lets me change anything

Yep sadly they made the settings in adobe air :/ also the phone app i find is a bit slow to open as well. Some funny behaviour going on with the phone app ie when you open the phone app, it takes a few secs to get itself sorted out and at the bottom left hand side...it says active call when there isnt .

Dont know if they will re-code the settings and phone app in a future update, can only hope they do but still doesnt really detract from the whole experience imho.

As for the 10.1 update??, its shipping with the q10 and they have added a few new features...HDR in the camera along with pin to pin messaging...a few other features as well and lots of minor improvements from what i have been reading over at crackberry. The Z10 should get it around middle of May from what people are saying but if you cannot wait then you can always install a leaked version of the 10.1 OS if you want. I havent done it yet as im waiting for the official version. Also skype now works on the z10, someone posted up a bar file for sideloading...it works but i find it very slow so ive deleted it and again waiting for the official version to come out...shouldnt be too long i hope.

BlackBerry's Thorsten Heins thinks tablets will be dead in five years

As BlackBerry launches its keyboard-equipped Q10 smartphone, CEO Thorsten Heins is once again downplaying the importance of tablets in the mobile market. "In five years I don't think there'll be a reason to have a tablet anymore," Heins told Bloomberg in an interview. "Maybe a big screen in your workspace, but not a tablet as such. Tablets themselves are not a good business model." BlackBerry's PlayBook tablet was one of its most notable failures, quickly dropping in price after unsold inventory caused it to take a $485 million loss in late 2011.

Rather bizarre thinking from the BlackBerry CEO, I can't see how something this popular will suddenly fizzle out. They need to concern themselves with competing with the likes of the iPad instead of downplaying it.
