AMD OR INTEL and what motherboard??

im looking at buying a gaming pc, i only need the tower, but idont really know enough about it to make an informed decision on whether to go AMD or INTEL.? i also sont know how much i should spend on a motherboard? i have a £550 budget roughly i can go over im just tight when it comes to money!! could some one give some recomendations??

(main use will be gaming and i dont need os)

Stock cooler - overclocking out for now but upgradeable later

No. DDR3 RAM will need a motherboard and CPU which supports DDR3, same for DDR2 etc. You also need to make sure that the CPU/motherboard support certain speeds. You can see this by reading product descriptions as it often says.

Most of the time, yes.

For a 3570K and a 7850 500W is more than enough.
 
Due your budget its tricky as some sacrifices would need to made, but yes of you can afford the extra.

and do i really need an ssd or am i good with a hdd?

It will all fit in that case. You don`t really need an ssd, it does make boot times and loading of software quicker. But I look at it as a luxury, not as a necessity. As RJC has already said, don`t make sacrifices to your system just to fit one in. Just get one when you can afford it.
