New BMW's not like what they once were?

Mine has 350 HP. I guess the RS3 suffers at higher speeds due to the drivetrain. Where do you get they have low weight from? The Audi figure seems to be 1575 Kg, presumably their usual excluding driver figure, so 1650 Kg including. The E60 535d is only 1735 Kg!

EDIT: Confirmed, 1650 Kg including driver (206 HP/ton): http://www.schwab-kolb.com/audi/en/etd_rs_3_sportback.pdf, so a whole 85 Kg lighter than a 6 cylinder diesel 5 Series. I'd call that pretty overweight for a little hatchback :p

The M135i has 213 HP/ton.

Shhh you. It's still a rapid hatch :D

Single turbo and peak torque starts at 1300 revs.

I can honestly say I've never been in a car, except a 997.1 911 Turbo, that pushes you into your seat so aggressively at minimal revs.

At 24 and the M135i being my first car, I have little experience driving performance cars although I understand your point. If anything the M135i felt a little clinical, it was just effortlessly quick. Whilst I was blown away I was also a bit saddened that the days of revving the hell out of cars to extract the performance are over. I have no doubt an M3 would be much more fun to drive but the M135i is in the same league performance wise. It also has that Jekyll & Hyde personality, one minute it's a comfortable, quiet daily driver but in sport mode it's a brutally fast machine.

If only the M135i had the looks of the 1M. In my eyes the 1M looks stunning, I love its aggressive stance.

Interesting what you say about clinical. I think that kind of hits the nail on the head with my thinking when I drive newish cars.

They all rely so much on electronic stability etc, I feel very disconnected as a driver from the feel of the car. What I mean by that is I have no idea when it is likely to let go and you are then out of control. In older cars I can usually feel when they are on the limit.

Maybe it is just me, but some of the fun is going now.

What a bizarre comment. These days are not over - if thats what you wanted there are other cars which would have offered this.

I know there are Fox, but you name me a car that hits 0-60 in around 4.6 seconds and will also return me mid-30mpg on my daily commute? A NA car of that performance will not be as economical.

It's not necessarily a bad thing, although if money was no option I would rather have an M3.

Used M3?

See thats a totally different point. You said the days of revving for performance are over - now it turns out what you meant is that there are no high revving hatchbacks that do 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. Make your mind up. The days of high revving hatchbacks even at the peak never produced performance like that!

I guess all I meant is it feels kind of emotional buying my first high performance car. Since I was 17 I've had to work so hard to extract the performance from what I have been driving. Most of the time that was a 1.4 FSI Golf or, your favourite, Mum's Mini Cooper! I've now bought one of the quickest A-B cars on British roads and the process of going brutally fast is effortless. Call me weird but it does feel a little emotional!
