Hello everyone,

Im attempting to spec a gaming rig for about 550 cost that I can upgrade paycheck by paycheck . I already have keyboard , mouse , speakers and monitor.
But no liscence .
Would prefer i5 and a nvidea card any suggestions on a build would be greatly appreciated , im not to up on the sea of options available but have a friend who can put it together for me.

Hi thanks for the quick reply.

The problem i have is that doesn't include a os does it ?
so that's an extra £80 on top and will push it just out of my price range
how difficult would it be to replace the processor if i started out with a i3 and upgraded it ?
also could i remove the cd rw out of my old pc , and probably use the case im not sure its a cooler master centurion ?
that would save £50 what do you think ? :)

this case coolermaster centurion

this dvd rw :

Samsung SH-S222A IDE DVD Optical Drive |

and two of these :

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500 GB,Internal,7200 RPM,3.5" (ST3500630AS) Hard Drive

all of these are out of a 6 year old pc thats on its last legs not sure if there usefull or not ?

use Windows 8 free trail for 3 months should allow you to save up for the OS, use your current case if you want and drop the optical drive brings in just near the budget :D

you could reuse the HDD's that optical drive tho is useless as IDE died out years and very few boards still support them.

thanks for the help guys will take it all into consideration , much appreciated :)

You need to edit out those links fella. It's against forum rules to link to competitors (the manufacturers webpage for the components is fine btw).

I really would suggest you give the windows 8 enterprise evaluation a go. This gives you more cash to spend on components now. As my buddy Idleman says you could possibly upgrade your XP licence saving you cash.

I'd probably look to add a good value SSD later when I bought the OS upgrade to do a fresh install.

The 7850 is great bang for buck, they overclock well and you are getting some nice free games to boot. I included a decent value heatsink so you can OC the i5K too. If you are using the old case you will find a modular PSU to be very helpful for cable management.

I look forward to seeing what you settle on :)

ok cheers , i didnt realise about the links but it makes sense i have edited them out !

thanks for your contribution !
atm i have basically the same list in my bag, i think the main thing i will struggle on picking now is the graphics card all for £140 to £170

ive seen a gtx 660 ti , gtx 660 , a 7850 well two here in this post so far and the gtx 650 ti .. how do you choose lol

Yeah it's never easy. The trick is balancing it all. I still own a 1Gb 460 (you can find these pretty cheap 2nd hand), it overclocks well and is still gaming capable but come the next gen of GPUs I will upgrade. I'm no fanboy, i just get what's best bang for buck and this 460 has done me very well :D

You want ideally 2GB of VRAM. The 7850 is a good shout as I explained, there is the 7870XT for £200ish that is closely related to the 7950 and if you OC then you can net 7950 performance. Best bang for buck is with AMD at the mo, having good games bundled along with the GPUs certainly helps ;)

The AMD cards offer great performance for the money but doesn't have advanced PhysX were as the nVidia cards do. . The GTX650Ti boost is still an entry level card but is quite close to the 660.
