GB's teen crime commisioner - should she step down?

How come no one in the public eye is capable of learning prior to making massively public blunders?

Anyway I doubt she has learned, he role has simply changd so she will be PC and not post such things again. The issue lies with the vetting provess prior to her appointment, and indeed, who appointed her.

But then if you found a teenager who was a bastion of all that is good with youth, and none of the bad, they aren't exactly going to be representative of the people they are supposed to represent, and therefore unable to act as a role model.

 I don't even know where to start with this one!

Indeed, apparently the ideal role model is someone who can say "I was racist, abused alcohol and drugs at a young age and the police STILL hired me!". Great.

Meanwhile there are those of us that studied their arse for three years at uni in order to get a police-related job and were then shut out because of the freeze on recruitment. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

I always find using logic and reasoning helps, you should try it one day.

You could pick a nice young, middle class boy - a future David Cameron in waiting, but the young people he's supposed to represent are hardly going to identify with him are they?

How is 'identifying' going to curb crime? Isn't that the work of PSCO's and social workers?

The argument is that she couldn't possibly continue with her role as Youth PCC because she's such a poor role model. To be a role model, the people you are modelling for have to identify with you or else why should they make an effort to try and be like them? Btw, curbing crime isn't the Youth PCC's job.

What is it then?

so what you're saying is, all the people she's supposed to be a voice for are racist ****heads?

besides, she wasn't hired on this basis at all. it has come out in the wash. that's what all the fuss is about.

she's probably a young girl who's mum baked a cake for someone on the board. in 2002.

I feel most of the argument is that the role shouldn't exist where taxpayers pay a non-elected child £15k a year to say some nice words in the ear of a police commissioner.

Who appointed her?
We've yet to hear.

I fail to see the point of a teenage Police Commisoner in the first place. What she tweeted a couple of years ago is immaterial, kids will be kids after all.

I'm sure a lot of us have quipped things here that you wouldn't expect to have to explain in the 'cold light of day' out of context.

I saw her on the news. She did seem a bit upset. :D

So she is racist because of this?

"why are people from Direct Pizza so difficult to talk to!! IT IS CALLED ENGLISH. LEARN IT.

That makes Ed Miliband racist too then.

"Staff in all publicly funded jobs who interact with members of the public will have to show proficiency in the English language"

In fact that probably makes everyone who has called an Indian (or Scottish tbh) call centre a racist ****head too

Typical overreaction from the liberal-wannabefascist crowd, anything that can be spun as "OMG Racist!!!" is jumped on, you are just as blindly suppressive as the people you seek to denounce.

Well as I understand it, the taxpayer doesn't pay for her. The £15k salary comes out of Kent's PCC salary of £85k.
