Policewoman Sues Man Who Called 999

I'm not saying she will get it but she can definitely put a claim in for it.
You'll be surprised what is claimed for after an injury (can't go into much detail), for example one person used to have a certain type of holiday with his wife for 30+ years but after an injury they would never be able to have that type of holiday again but would need x amount extra to go on the holidays they now needed which seemed reasonable to me. Also the same person had to have many alterations done in the house so they could go about their normal day.
Working in Claims I now see it from both sides when it looks justified.

i can imagine, worked around many disabled peoples homes on and off over the years and even little things can cause major issues. but il admit many people do take the urine with it though as well.

if she's lost her contracted hours (salary) due to injury i could understand, but she's claiming for lost overtime and night shift allowance and bank holiday cover. which im guessing only so many people can work. so im not sure how she could claim they are hours she would have gotten unless she was down to do them before falling over a kerb.

still see's over the top claiming for hours your not contracted for, even if you where down to do them there not contracted as such, especially when she's gotten full pay for being off.

Ignoring the fact the incident the claim is related to is ridiculous, claiming for overtime and night shifts etc.. isn't necessarily ridiculous.

Some people might well work regular overtime and have a rota etc.. for night shifts - certainly for the tech support team in my firm shifts and on call payments probably account for between 30-50% of their pay. If one of them was say injured in a road accident that wasn't their fault and off work for a couple of months then they'd have lost out financially as sick pay would just cover their basic salary.

I don't think it would be reasonable to claim that you 'could' have worked overtime - but if you did work overtime/nights etc.. consistently prior to an accident then surely its reasonable, if someone is to blame for your accident, for the missed overtime/shift payments to be covered since they likely won't be by normal sick pay.

Yep, i'm claiming for stepping on a lego brick, hoping for £25I...

Of course it is the minority, but it seems it is hardly an isolated case either

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukn...officers-claim-compensation-for-injuries.html

Figures released by the Police Federation, which represents the rank and file, show some 1,859 officers received compensation worth a total of £19.8 million last year for injuries suffered.

MORE than 8,000 police officers have successfully claimed compensation worth nearly £70m in the past four years, official figures have revealed.

Though of course, headline grabbing sensationalist statistics tell about as much of the story as the amount of police who claim every year, ~1.5% in both cases :p, but it seems you are missing out on the action Burnsey ;)

Although that doesn't seem to take any account of whether the claims are "trivial" or otherwise. Being in the police is a much higher risk job than most so it doesn't seem a huge surprise to me that there are a number of instances overall where claims are made for injuries suffered.

And of course some places are easier to claim from than others.
Last year a worker stopped me and said "You work in the Legal department don't you?" and before I could stop him he continued telling me his story. He'd had an accident, tried to put a Claim in but was told the accident was on Council property so he had to drop the claim. I asked "Have you put a claim in with the Council?" and he said "No chance mate, I won't get anything out of them, minds you I've put another one in"
This is also what I experience, that the same staff members are the ones who keep complaining.
