Best thing to polish copper block?

I clean blocks with a 3 stage process. First is the ketchup which easily removes the oxidization. This leaves a lot of residue on the block though but luckily lemon juice comes to the rescue. Finally finish it off with some Akasa TIM clean or similar :-)

Like i said before, after brasso go over with a TIM cleaner like articlean or alcohol and it will remove anything leftover by the brasso. No need to sand it.

I intended to soak a FC5870 copper for a day in a vinegar solution, but I forgot about it and found it about a week later, the vinegar had turned green and the waterblock lost all of its glossyness and appeared to be matte. I then proceeded to soak it in what I thought was distilled water to see if it was of any use anymore, but it seems it was actually a combination of distilled water and screenwash, and I practically destroyed it. It now looks like the original finished copper has become a slab of raw compounded copper flakes which has oxidised. :D

So that is an example of how you *dont* do it ;)

Oh, and if anyone knows of something I might be able to do to save it, feel free. :p

So is the general consensus a yes or a no for brasso? It looks like it's done a fabulous job to me.

By the sounds of it, use brasso but make sure to give it a once over with some articlean afterwards to remove any gunk it may leave behind.

What's in articlean? Could I just use my usual metal prepping stuff? (a non-specific mixture of cheap vodka and brake disk cleaner in a glass bottle :D)

I think the best answer for anybody who finds this thread while searching about cleaning copper is, don't bother its more trouble than its worth lol.

Is it better to buy a new waterblock whenever the old one is all oxidised and gunked up then?

I say articlean over something like the akasa tim clean as it comes with a bottle of surface purifier, leaves a nice dry clean finish I've been using it for near 10 years now :)

Where does my random mixture of vodka and brake cleaner fit in? :D

I think it would be an instant hit
