Buying a new bed

No didnt work out well at all because you end up leaving a dent in the mattress and it takes a good few days for the foam to expand back to its original firmness/shape; so obviously if you're sleeping in it every night you just end up carving a big dent in it. Not good for someone like me who likes to have some movement and who doesnt sleep in the same position every night.

I have had a great experience with my memory foam matress from Bensons for Beds. Bought it in December 2009 and me and my partner have slept in it pretty much every night since, and we have no dents? I sleep in different positions every night too.

I'm speaking from my own experience and giving my personal opinion. If I had the choice I wouldn't buy from Bensons For Beds again or buy a memory foam mattress.

Already planning my next mattress purchase, going for a Hypnos; heard nothing but good things about them. http://www.hypnosbeds.com/index.aspx

get the best mattress, pillows and bedding you can afford.

I would recommend goose down for the duvet, pillows to taste and some Egyptian cotton to taste for the bedding.

imagine getting up in the morning refreshed and ready for the day each and every day.

it is worth paying the extra

I don't think you're going to get a good bed for 600 quid. Have you actually tried any of these beds?

nope that is part of the problem of buying online isn't it?

I'd recommend buying from a smaller independent shop (eg. La Romantica) and not from these big stores such as John Lewis, Dreams etc. You'll get far more in terms of quality.

O and ignore all the marketing rubbish about non turn mattresses, it's a huge con, and a cost cutting one at that. You want a mattress that you can flip over (double sided) not rotate, as it'll last longer.

If you want a mattress to last then you should really be paying more than a couple of hundred pounds for it.

You spend a lot of time on it so make sure it's right. Memory foam isn't automatically better, most, including myself, find them too hot to sleep on. My advice would be to buy a topper and try it on your existing bed for a few weeks. During the summer would be best but that's a way off yet!

A cheapish matress will be nice for a few years and then it'll start to go downhill.

Try a variety of different constructions in store and then buy online.

You don't buy a bed online unless you're (a) stupid, (b) skint, and/or (c) lazy.

Unless you've actually tried it in a store and are just trying to get it cheaper online. You have to try your bed out.

loltroll. You think sitting on it for 10 minutes in a shop is going to tell you how it feels to sleep on for 8 hours every night for the next 20 years?

Most online-only places give 30 day no quibble, free return offers which is MUCH more useful.

You clearly think that, or you'd not have been able to confidently tell us your £400 matress is better than anything John Lewis sell for more than double that.
