Corsair PSU RMA question

So a couple of months back i got a CPU, motherboard, ram and a PSU from a friend. Now since having it i have noticed pretty bad "coil whine" from the PSU (friend never noticed it because he is partly deaf)

The PSU is Corsair TX850 and was bought about July 2011 so this puts it still within the 3 year warranty. Correct? But my friend doesn't have the receipt for the purchases (at the time he built a whole PC that i put together for him originally) so without knowing the exact date of purchase am i out of luck to RMA it?

Thanks in advance

Nope I put in an approximate date and they haven't rejected after receiving the PSU ;) Just waiting for the replacement now :p

My friend sent my old 620hx to corsair and they never asked for a reciept but he did have to pay postage that was quite expensive as he had to send it somwhere in east europe

Closest Corsair base is in NL, but if you ring them up and ask nicely they arrange pickup of PSU for you to avoid the £15+ it would have cost to send yourself ;)

If you are the 2nd user of the psu then why don't you pay for postage,it's only fair due to the op not having the receipt and he will get a brand new one in return, seems a small price to pay for good customer service if you ask me.

Generally they just ask about date and where you purchased it and then the part number and serial. I heard there's also a way that you can wait for the new part and only send the faulty one back when you receive it so you can carry on using the pc if you wish.

But yea they have awesome service, they sent me two 4pin fans for my H80i when I had it and also a completely new 300r case when the front plate of my 300r attachment pins broke. Never had to pay for anything and didn't take more than one or two emails, I never actually pressed them for anything for free simply only asked where I could get a new front plate for the 300r due to the pins breaking.

I don't mind having to pay say £15 or so for postage. Like someone mentioned it's a small price to pay for a new unit rather than £110 for a new one from OCUK or my usual Retailer. But being without my beloved PC for weeks might cause me to go even more crazy than usual LOL

Nah the missus has a PC but certainly not for gaming. It'll do for what i need in the meantime.

Thanks again everyone for your advice/suggestions ;)

Edit: Just another question. I have seen people mention they will want the Serial number etc off the unit. But at what point do they ask for this? Because there was no mention of it when i filled the RMA form out to begin with...

I didn't give them any serial number just the model of the PSU :)

Also might as well ring them up and ask for free shipping ;)

And how would i go about that in the UK? Certainly not ringing the US. I can't find anything on UK contact details anywhere (Or I am just blind)

Thanks

The serial number was on the form they sent me to fill out my delivery details and name etc. Think ringing them is a premium number, they usually reply to RMA emails within a day so it's pretty quick and you could probably ask for free postage there. You can also skype them.

Like I said above if you don't want to lose your pc I read on their forums somewhere that they can send you the replacement and then you can send the broke one back once you've received it.

lol that's what I thought at first but if you look again but closely this time there is "Toll Free: +1 888-222-4346", that's the number I rang from my mobile. It's also free to ring from Skype. Also just received an email today from Corsair that my RMA has been shipped, that's a very fast turnover time as UPS picked it up only last Wednesday

I've RMA'd a PSU to Corsairs RMA depot in Holland twice. Turnaround time is about a week to 10 days depending on who you used to send said PSU back to them. I used UPS (via interparcel) on both occasions.

+1

Well thanks again all for your great feedback. And I will report back on my personal experience with Corsair's RMA service. Once it is all sorted of course. Just for those that may be curious or those that might have to go through it at some point also.
