Hi people
I have a new MSI 7970 oc and cant even run it at stock through 3d mark 2011 this happens evertime it gets to test 2???
This is through display port, when i tried through hdmi i just got a black screen at test 2!!! Sorry for video quality done on my phone.

Seems to run heaven 4.0 ok if a little hot?
I have a corsair 600 psu so that shouldn't be a problem.

Is this an RMA job??

Regards

It does look like a possible faulty card. What drivers are you using?

Just to rule it out maybe you should try a complete driver sweep then reinstall the latest 13.3 beta drivers from AMD's website and see if the exact same thing occurs.

1. Download the Latest AMD Drivers. Caps are now included as part of the package. 64 bit link
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/AMD...13.3_Beta3.exe Currently 13.3 Beta 3

2. Download & install Driver Fusion.

3. Un-install any other versions of Afterburner, Trixxx, GPU Tweak etc. Don't want other apps interfering. Do not keep user settings, delete everything.

4. Uninstall the AMD drivers via Add/Remove Programs.

5. Restart your pc. Once back into windows run Driver Fusion. Analyse amd and then delete all entries. Restart.

6. Now you can install the new drivers. Use the express install option unless you have a specific reason not to. Follow the prompt and restart your pc once installed.

If you still get the same problem post in the custom services section.

Followed all of LtMatts advice and now it can get all the way through 3d mark 11 but still black screens when I open gpuz sporadically.
Does this sound like a faulty card or software based?
I might try the dreaded windows 7 full reformat just to be sure.

Maybe gpu-z is changing the clocks somehow and that is causing the black screens. If it works fine without gpu-z then i wouldn't send it back.

Futuremark 11 is picky about monitoring programs running in the background, crashes everytime for me if I leave playclaw running for example.

I think its possibly a software issue. Got a spare drive you can do a dummy set up on?

Edit to say I have the same card and while the ref cooler gets a little "wooshy" its not at all loud.

I did a full windows reinstall then installed the latest catalyst drivers and didn't install any monitoring software like gpuz.
Installed and ran 3dmark 11 and it did the same thing first run on test 2 :'(
I nearly picked my pc up and threw it out the window

Both GPUZ and 3dmark11 can both be a pain in the backside, I don't think your problems are anything to do with your hardware.

In the past when installing new GPUs, I have started an old version of GPUz and it would blue screen my system. Solution download the latest version.

With 3dmark11 there are two versions that are in common use, ver 1.03 and ver 1.04, whichever version you are using try downloading the other version and give it a go. I find version 1.03 the more reliable and accurate one to use.
