Buying a new bed

You clearly think that, or you'd not have been able to confidently tell us your £400 matress is better than anything John Lewis sell for more than double that.

You can tell quality, yes. There is no way of 100% ascertaining whether a bed will be comfortable for you over the next 20 years or not, but certainly using it properly for 30 days is better than 30 minutes in a shop.

Because John Lewis don't mark up lower quality products to that extent, and I am placing my bets on while you couldn't tell the difference in 15 minutes bouncing on the bed, you could in a week of sleeping it and certainly the condition of it within 5 years of use :)

Mattresses aren't exempt of high street markups. JL's expenses (on top of the mattress manufacturer's) are far more than those of an independent mattress manufacturer.

OP, read my original thread if you want which is where the recommendation for FBD came from: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18448955

I didn't say that so you can keep that particular strawman to yourself.

e : oh, I see. You're the guy who thought the 500 quid bed was the bomb.

I didn't say that either. I said it was as good as the £1,000 ones we looked at in John Lewis. And we spent a long time looking; we even ordered one from there originally.

Myself and the missus are going shopping for a new king size mattress tonight. She point-blank refuses to let me order one online so I am stuck with going to the usual shops. Heading to Bensons for Beds and Dreams later but both appear to have sales on.

Been looking at this one so will see how it feels - http://www.bensonsforbeds.co.uk/Spe...ho-Posturepedic-King-Size-Mattress;80682.aspx

I know the deal is nowwhere near as good as it looks but she will not budge. We have a memory foam one at the moment and it has both given us bad backs and it was sweaty as anything last summer on the days when it was actually hot.

I would go Super KS as King Size isn't that much bigger than a double. Just recently made the change and there's so much more room, plus I now don't wake up with my feet sticking out the bottom of the bed :)

Not sure how that works out since they are both the same length of bed (198cm)

All I can say is make sure you TEST the mattress in store first, even if you then go on to order it online. You cannot wing/guess what mattress you're going to like! I went into a shop insistent on buying a memory foam one...after testing it and a few pocket springs, I went straight back to good ol' pocket.
