Hey guys, I used to game. Am just coming back to it, looking at a rig with these spec, built last month and selling tomorrow to me.

Just seeing if people this this is good for moderate gaming / future gaming.

AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Quad Core Processor
Akasa Venom 550w Modular '80 Plus' Power Supply
MSI A75IA-E53 AMD A75 Chipset (Socket FM2) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard
Samsung Green 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual Channel Kit
Corsair Hydro H55 Quiet Liquid CPU Cooler
EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter
150GB Western Digital Raptor Hard Disk
Windows 8 OEM Edition

it's in a nice mini case. comes with a monitor. I've got a mouse, and will get a keyboard.

Any thoughts? is it ok. Obviously need a second HD but thats alright. Quick opinions would be helpful in selling it to myself.

Nick

Its not too bad, but I would have looked at a Intel setup as your going with a external GPU.

If you were going to use this in the living room with the odd game and media centre and no external gpu then yes.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Looks ok but for a few points.

No point in having the Trinity APU if you are using a GTX670, you'd be better off with an Intel i5 as that is the sweet spot for gaming.

The Corsair H55 cooler is not one of their best, H60, H100 or go for a decent air cooler would be more preferable.

150GB raptor drives are ok, but you'd be better with an SSD and 500GB/1tb mech drive.

What is your budget, we can spec you a m-itx build here.

All depends on the price your paying for the PC, the specs are good. Would be inclined to change out the CPU and Mobo however as it's more for a trinity build more than anything.

I am paying £480. With a 22" monitor with it. Was built a month ago. For a lot more obviously. Boxes with everything and warranties as its new.

Thanks for the comments, surely PSU and CPU can be switched out in the future? possibly for i5 and higher PSU? is this possible...

Also what do you mean external GPU? this is a £300 GPU right? and would throw most games you chuck at it. Ram would not hold it back, just the CPU could possibly bottle neck a bit?

Or am I wrong. It also comes with legit windows 8 OEM. I don't think for the same price I could build anything near this?

TY guys.

The PC you are proposing to buy will only allow you to upgrade the GPU & any SSD/HDD you are using. Unfortunately, you will not get an i5 in there.

You could replace the motherboard & CPU later on, but that spec would keep a HTPC running for a good number of years.

Yes that graphics card is great, but it would be wasted in a build like that. You could always buy it and sell it on in bits, in the hope you make your money back and buy an Intel PC built for gaming.

HTPC? don't understand what this part means? So don't understand that part.

But a good SSD, and an upgraded CPU, top of the range AMD and a quick SSD would make this a good machine to game on for the future?

is £480 a good price? the parts in the receipt he has sent me add up to around 800+ and that was a month ago.

Just need piece of mind before I part with cash. Positive words about the build.

if not, maybe it won't be a good idea.

I see no reason you would want a Trinity CPU in a build with a dedicated graphics. Switching it out to an i5 and 7950 would be my choice.

HTPC is a Home Theater PC. Basically, the components are kept to a minimum, Motherboard, CPU, RAM & HDD. The graphics are integrated into the processor and will allow streaming, watching films & some moderate gaming, not for the gaming you are intending.

This ^^^ is your better option.

I get that, but it's gonna cost a hell of a lot more to pick up the card, then cpu, then everything around it.

This is built, would upgrading the cpu just never be worth it? to give a decent machine. surely there are alternatives. new cpu and mobo in the future. but for now this could be good?

Yes. I'd sell the A10 + motherboard, and get a 3570K + Z77 motherboard. That should be around £180-£200 extra (£250-£300 without the sell).

Odd choice, a A10 with a GTX 670.

On the FM2 socket they are no CPU upgrades really available and the only time you want a Trinity CPU is when you are having a HTPC or a budget gaming rig

For £480...? well that's about the price you'd pay new without the GPU, if my maths are correct.[/QUOTE]

So it could be a good buy then? I mean having spoken to the guy it runs most games on full everything at 1080p with dx11 and texture packs. Including new games like crysis 3.

Just watched a video about the CPU with a discrete card. And it seems the CPU was designed to have better graphics than the Intel counter part. i.e. the hd3000 or 4000. Which it does, but in turn it doesn't perform as well when taking the external card into account. But looking at FPS performance specs and speeds. It looks like it's around 15-25% slower than if I had the i3 or i5.

So finally, for me surely this is still a good option? even though the build is strange or not sensible. I can't build better for less? And it's not going to struggle playing anything surely? Maybe in 3 or 4 years it might, but I could be dead by then.

I think I'm gonna go for it. And maybe in the future swap out the mobo and cpu. But for now, my last question

It will run most games right? at high / ish settings.

BTW I am very appreciative of all the quick responses and help. I don't mean to sound like I am not listening.

this video explained it I hope -

anyone to help with last comment? last question.

yeah it will run most games high ish settings at least. the processor is a bit of a bottleneck so real cpu intensive games like strategy total war type games and mmos might not run as well as they could if you had an i5, but overall will be good.

thanks for your answers guys. Really helpful. I think I will get it, see how it goes. The cpu can be overclocked if need be a little. But I guess it will play stuff. And I will save in the future to change the motherboard and cpu. But for now this will do, and if it will play all games on the Gefore card then perfect. I'm not looking for ultra machine. just a good machine. And this seems to fit the bill. I can look more into other stuff, ssd's and upgrades later.

Cheers guys.
