GTX Titan or Xfire 7950s?

If I had a £1 for every piece of rubbish Andy sprouted I would have 4 Titans.

It's a valid point though. And that's coming from a 7950 CF owner. While I don't see the issue myself it could explain why others have had to ditch 7900 series CF for nVidia.

I dont think anyone can take your liks seriousily because you prolly search Google "amd crossfire of dog doo vs nvidia sli of godness"

Thats fair enough Rusty, I know SLI is generally considered better than x-fire because of the support involved. And to be honest I value anything you have to say a lot higher than Andy because your not hugley biast and you have tried both.

I've discounted the 690 as if I do change cards I'd rather go for Titan due to easier SLI in the future - SLi'ing a GTX 690 would have me effectively running four cards!

I guess the question comes down to whether I want to fork out hundreds more for a potential future benefit or spend far less, with the added issue of possible Xfire-related complications. It's very hard to gauge the real life extent of Xfire issues. Some say it's fine, others make it out to be a big deal.

If you are going to stick to 1080p you would probably never want to sli two GTX 690s. Having said that running 2 GTX 690s in sli is no harder and just as smooth as running two Titans in sli. The only difference is up to 1600p the 690s are a fair bit faster.

Where the Titans score big is in resolutions above 1600p where the bigger memory/bus help a lot.

If I had to choose one card for 1080p I would go for the GTX 690 which a lot of people would say is overkill. A single HD 7970/50 or GTX 680/70 really should be enough to do the job.

Stay with a single 7950 and sell/upgrade next gen.

-Titan is ridiculous for 1080p
-People are saying crossfire is borked
-Single o/cd 7950 is fine for 1080p @ 60fps

believe me, when I show someone my liks they take my liks very seriously :D

if I could change my forum name to hugley biast I would do it in a heart beat :D

I have also tried several of both teams cards this generation, I still own one in fact which might even pay for itself and it's replacement as I've set it to bitcoin mining
I also did not recommend the green team card being asked about, but whatever, apparently actually recommending AMD means I need to be cajoled in to posting links to put people off

Maybe if you stopped constantly posting sly digs and then trying to use the 'but I recommend AMD cards all the time, so I'm clearly unbiased' as some kind of get out of jail free card, you might provoke less arguments.

Spot on always Uncle Peter. ;)

Titan isn't ridiculous for 1080p, it's bloody fantastic. lol

But that's only because I have a 120hz screen, so it is a little different.

I could get the same perceivable gameplay experience on one of my 680s compared to a titan @ 1080p.

Crysis 3 might be an exception but crysis hasn't been worth playing since warhead anyway.

Hmmm. Food for thought. I know I should probably stick with a single 7950 for the time being but it bugs me that the card doesn't max out all games, even on single-screen 1080p. It's not just Crysis 3, either - even Tomb Raider and Need for Speed Most Wanted need to be toned down for 60fps.

I can get 60fps on Crysis on High with no AA - and it looks great - but to max it out would be awesome. Yes, I know Crysis 3 is mental demanding and even a Titan can't run 100% ultra with a Titan.

Have a look around at bench results and take the averages of what is shown (many reviewers lean one way or the other).

This is something you have to justify and whilst a Titan is a fantastic card, it isn't the best choice for a 1080P 60hz monitor IMO and is more suited to a minimum of 120Hz (690 still a better choice for that) or a 1440 monitor or multi monitor games.

I would wait it out and see what the next iteration brings or even see the price of the Titan LE.

I'm in agreement with Peters wise words of wisdom also, a recommendation with caveat's, but expected these days.

Twin 50's can do almost full ultra@1080p at a good 60 fps with 4xMSAA, I say almost as I personally don't use motion blur.

Impressive.

Even more impressive as according to the links posted on the first page the xfire performance is only the same one 7950, smirk. :D

Maybe rusty or someone else can confirm, but personally C3 looks lovely regardless whether using 4xMSAA or not and can look the part with custom sweetFX settings that lessen the impact of performance hitting MSAA.

Even the cheaper option of another 50 is a huge price to pay imho for only a scant few titles.

These days I'm portrayed as talking a lot of BS though.

CrossFire is that broken, I can play in the high 50's in 3D FS without AA+motion blur, with small dips to the high 30's when it all kicks off in game.;)

:D
