There is a rumor flying about that Google is in talks with Whatsapp makers about a billion dollar buyout, Whatsapp have denied this rumor, but we've had denial before only for it to happen eventually.

I'm both an Android user & Whatsapp user & i think this would be a bad move if Google do take over, it would probably mean goodbye to WP & IOS, and just be Android based only with Google ads & renamed to Google Messenger or something :(

So if this does happen what do you think?

If it does happen then it maybe will be renamed Google Messenger, But I very much doubt it'll be removed from platforms such as WP & iOS.

Like it says in an article I read it might be a good move ... There might be a paid ad-free version (not free, but still) and it might then integrate with gmail so you can use it on your tablet / PC etc

Might be good :)

I prefer the use of numbers means I don't have to mess about adding people they're just there when their number goes in my contacts.

I would have thought they would make there own app. It's not like they can't advertise it and make it as big as whatsapp.

True but if people are using whatsapp and it is doing the job fine ... Who's going to move to the Google alternative? I probably wouldn't

If it was free and did the same thing I would.

I did use it but now I have to pay for it I've not bought it. I probably will eventually but at the moment I'm using viber and fring which are just as good just not as many use it

They already have GTalk, but obviously Whatsapp is much more popular (maybe there's some technical things they'd want too, I don't know about that), it's basically like how MS bought Skype even though they had MSN Messenger. It's easier to beat your competitor by buying them than spending a load on advertising and people still sticking with the service they already like/their friends use :).

I can't imagine they'd make it Android only, it'd just result in less ad money and force another multi-platform competitor to pop up.

Isn't GTalk already cross-platform anyway?

I wasn't that bothered ... 65p (or whatever it was) was a reasonable price for the app I thought

Im still using it 2 months after the year trial ran out, just get an occasional message saying to pay later.

I've never used it but fron what I've read from people using it on these forums it seems pretty random whether it expires and you have to pay or it expires then auto-renews for free. Never heard of it saying pay later unless that's just how the auto-renew works and no-one's mentioned it before.

Mine kept auto extending itself until they released that update to use in app payments. It then forced me to upgrade to that version and I had to pay, I don't mind though it is something I use every day. Although all the people I use it with are on Facebook so I don't know why we don't just use Facebook Messenger when that is free...
