Hello all

Asus are about to release a new flagship board! Rather than it being completely new, it is a revised Sabertooth with a few added features. Here is a picture:

Straight away this board doesn't look all too different from the older sabertooth and you would be right. It is still a 990/950 board, it still has 8+2 powerphasing and it still has the same amount of sata3/sata2 plugs. Even the colour scheme is barely a shade lighter than the old board. The only major difference you see at first is that the PCIe x1 slot isn't there, in its place is a large heatsink connected by a pipe to the SB heatsink.

Expect the build quality to be like Asus' other high end boards. Mofsets, chokes and capacitors will no doubt be able to take the abuse an avid overclocker would put them through.

Being a flagship board from asus, it comes with all the nice bits and bobs you would expect, like 'thermal radar', Asus' name for the number of temperature probes scattered around the board to control various fan speeds and read VRM, NB, SB and DIMM slot temps. The board also has Fast Boot and Direct Key (I own a formula Z board and find Direct key incredibly handy when your going in and out of the bios). The bios is the UEFI sabertooth interface, which is my favourite, makes overclocking FX chips and absolute pleasure, though some deem the bios a bit too flashy.

The only thing that actually sets this motherboard apart from the older Sabertooths is the PCIe slots. This will be the FIRST AM3+ board to support PCIe 3.0! Is this a big deal? In my opinion, no. I've seen a number of GPU comparisons showing no difference in performance with a single GPU. Some cases show increased performance with SLI/xfire but even those are few in number.

Overall this board is just like the old sabertooth, just with pcie 3.0 slots and a few windows 8 ready features which were missing. Not really a disappointment considering how great the original Sabertooth and its first revision was, like they say 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it and put a PCIe 3.0 on there'. I have'nt seen any prices but i cant expect it would be much more than 150 quid, a lot for a am3+ board but worth it for a top board like this. Like i said, if i didnt have the Formula-Z, this would be my next choice, the PCIe 3.0 is a gimmick now, but how long will it remain a gimmick?

Does anyone have any insight onto how much this board will be?
Anyone thinking of getting one?
