I haven't been on a proper holiday for over 5 years. I was wondering about last minute deals, has anyone used that method for booking their holiday. Me and the gf were thinking of booking the first 2 weeks of august off, so we could fly at a moments notice. Any recommended sites or advice would be great.

Unless you have no choice avoid July and August. It's when demand is higher so everything is loads more expensive.

June or September will get you more for your money or the same for less money.

Definately do September if you are on a tight budget - you stand a good chance of getting something nice. £350 each in August is a recipe for something fairly crap.

I agree with the above, as long as you go out of school holidays then you're onto a winner.

On the subject though, about 2 years ago we booked 14 nights to turkey in the last 2 weeks of august as a last minute deal and got all inclusive for £2400 for 2 adults and 2 kids which was a pretty damn decent price. So its always worth looking last minute.

If you're fairly flexible dates wise you could always keep an eye on things like groupon for their getaways.

We used lowcostholidays.com last year, booked about 2 weeks before flying. Was about £600 each though, so depends where you're going.

As above, September may be good when everyone starts going back to School, College, Uni and people getting back in to the Work routine after their summer breaks.

Or October November if you dont mind it a bit cooler, although you can still find places with all year round sun

Icelolly.com do cheap deals, I went to turkey via them.

Do not book via sites like this, Icelolly are simply a directory, and the prices are never as cheap as quoted. I did this thinking you get a good deal, you don't. Generally run from call centres in India, aggressive sales tactics and they simply lie to you most of the time to get the sale. They took my money when the room wasn't even available, so I turned up and the nightmare began.

Use this website to check who the travel agent is.

I used this company, wish I had read some other people's experiences first.

To be honest you'll get just as good a deal by booking in advance, there are plenty of good deals out there you just have to look.

I agree.

Me and the other half were going to book last minute, but in the end we found an amazing deal after scouring the internet for a week and booked 2 months in advance. The holiday we booked has now gone up in price a considerable amount :D Booking in advance also gives you time to research your destination/plan ahead for activities, etc.

I booked a 1 week holiday to corfu a few years ago on the day. Booked it about 10am at a travel agents, flew at about 6pm. it cost £180 per person (2) Yeah the process was fine really. The price pretty much dictated where we went. We fancied spain but that was at least double the price. It was only a bog standard bed and breakfast but well worth £180. The only problem I find that is once you commit to someone that you are going on holiday with them, some people panic and won't leave you alone untill you have booked something meaning you end up booking a few months before and paying full price all round. I'd book last minute again if I just wanted a holiday with no particular expectations.

Hows this..
Realised May day bank holiday is 4 weeks away..
Open google maps
Choose an island (not too far away, but far enough south to have some decent sun)
Zoom in and scout around for hotels.
Check out hotels on Trip advisor.
Get village name and search for dive centres in locale
Fine tune Hotel to one with a dive centre.
Open Skyscanner for cheapest flights over desired dates
Check hotels own website for availability / cost to ensure match with flight details.
Email dive centre for more specific details / check pricing and availability over those dates..
.......
BOOK :D
