Still shipping for a new Laptop and gave up on it for a while.

Was just right out going to buy a custom OCuK one for £1200 with a 7970M.

However other branded laptops seem to ALWAYS come with a 660M or a 670M which to my knowledge are bested by the 7970M.

What is better atm, baring in mind that 7970M OCuK laptops cost £1200 and other brands are cost £1500+ with the GTX660M.

Go with the 7970M. Faster than the 660M by a fair way and in some circumstances is faster than the 680M too.

Hm I thought so, see the problem is, I don't get why all these laptops come with that GTX660M, I suspected it was a pretty weak card for the cash but really got me was that every laptop with a 660 had a overkill i7, while the OCuK ones seem more balanced for gaming with an i5.

From looking at the GTX660M it seems not better than a GTX460, probably more in part with a GTX285?

i suggest you google "7970m" or "enduro" and "problems" or "warning" and the games you want to play before buying, I wish I had

if you do go with an nvidia card, get an MX, not an M, the regular M is a 5** card in disguise, where as the MX's are kepler cards

Just want to point out that mobile i5 and i7 is not the same as you thought of the desktop counterparts. While desktop i5 are with 4 physical cores (which is more than enough for most of us gamers), mobile i5 is ONLY two physical cores and two hyper-thread (which is really more like desktop's i3). Because of this, if you want Intel CPU with 4 physical cores for laptop, the i7 is pretty much the only way to go...but it would mean the overall higher price due the the extra cost of the chip.

i hate laptops, never saw the point in buying one to game on them, do it right and get a pc :p

I'll let you live with my missus for a few weeks, where you CAN'T leave lol she hates desktop PC's with a passion, hates how anyone can lock themselves away in another room , so I game on my laptop on the sofa and then she kinda lets me get away with it..

You'll be begging for my laptop after just a few days of her nagging at you.. Plus I've got a baby, there is a very valid point for many to get a gaming laptop.

some even use them in hotel rooms when working away etc..

As for the graphics card and CPU. Yes as stated the i5 and i7 on laptops are not the same. The i7 is personally the better one to get.

680m and 7970m are the only REAL choices IMO. Howver the 7970m is still having some issues with enduro.

The Alienware range allow for 7970m owners to turn this function off, using Fn F7 so before buying a AMD mobile solution check you can turn off enduro (clevo for example you can't) and check it works with games you play often.

Although I've got a 7970m and with enduro turned off, its been very solid.

I think 675MX should be ok as well, but definitely no lower than that.

Absolutely. And make sure it’s a 675MX and not the 675M. the AMD 6970M was also rather good had one myself in a Samsung G700 but I’d without doubt say get the 7970m if you can turn off enduro or just get a 680m instead.

Sadly the 680m carries a large premium over the 675mx or 7970m. The 7970m offers best value per performance as its from notebookcheck quicker then the 675mx and on par with the 680m but that power saving nonsense – Alienware did something about it, and allowed you to turn it off using Fn F7
