I'm looking for a pair of 7970s for my rig; ill be watercooling them with full blocks so want unlocked reference cards - any views as to which best fit the bill ATM? And are the ghz editions worth the extra cash?

Cheers for any input! Been with nvidia for a long time so a little out of the loop regarding the amd cards...

I'm looking for a ref PCB card. How does the MSI 7970 of compare to the sapphire 7970 oc boost?

Sapphire have terrible RMA procedure. MSI are the opposite.

As for performance (OC), it's a lottery mate and the MSI is 1010mhz as standard, whereas the sapphire 'boosts' to 1000mhz.
The MSI has plenty of happy owners including myself ;)

Yeah I'm very tempted by the msi card having read a bit more about it.

Has good reviews everywhere, nice black pcb and high factory overclock. Not sure if it comes with the games but you could ask to keep the voucher :-)

Looks really good but not sure on the brand. Never heard of them. Good they use black pcbs though instead of the daft colours other brands use.

Vtx3d are the same company as powercolor and club3d (I think) Not had any experience with them myself but powercolor have good customer support from my past experiences, always reply to my emails faster than any anywhere else!
 
Lightning BE has been and gone too. The last lot were up for ~£500 a pop as OcUK had the last of MSI's stock.

Tbh the Lightning is/was a bit of a fail on the OC side of things, especially when water is concerned. The reference OC had higher voltage limits for the average user.

MSI Lightning 1.35v core limit 1.7v memory limit

MSI OC 1.38v core limit 1.8v memory limit.
