Night workers, what hours do you do?

When its my week to do nights I usually do 2300-0700.

Whewn I get home I usually stay up till about 9am then I go to bed and wake up about 5pm. If its my last nightshift I usually get up at about 1pm so I can sleep properly that night :)

My gf does 8.30pm - 1.30am as a Dairy team leader wakes me up every night when she gets in! Specially when I get up at 6 :(

Night shifts did my body clock in, some people can cope but I'm one of those who couldn't. Well done to those who hold down a job doing nights.

I do 8-8 days/nights, shift pattern over 4 weeks is:
Mon-Thurs (days)
Thurs-Sun (nights)
Fri-Sun (days)
Mon-Wed (nights

That then repeats itself (so 8 weeks), then I do a week of 8-4 days, a week of 12-8 days and repeat that again to (so 4 weeks). 1hr lunch break, although tbh most of the time on nights it's like a a 12 hour break, punctuated with the odd bit of work to do.

I do:

Mon-Wednesday 6am-6pm (then 7 days off)
Thursday-Saturday 6am-6pm (24 hours off)
Sunday-Tuesday(finish Wednesday morning) 6pm-6am (then 5 days off until the shifts start over again).

We get no breaks (lunch etc) so just work the 12 hours straight trough.

I love the time off, effectively work 13 days a month, but the short turn around from days to nights is not nice, and the day after finishing nights my body clock is screwed up.

5 on and 2 off, typical work week.

23:00 - 07:00.

For the next 5 or 6 weeks I am doing 6 days on and 1 day off due to someone "breaking" his ankle.

e: No breaks.

Yeah that's what I do. You're a bit zombified for that afternoon but it's worth it to sleep properly at night to have the full day the day after (i.e my Sunday).

I'm seeing a pattern though, most people's shifts finish by 8am at the latest? Most 6-7am really. Like I was asking in my OP do you think it's bad to end up staying much later than that? E.g. I'm dreading tonight as we never have any cover to take over on Saturday morning, so if we get a pile of work in (which we have been doing) I'd be expected to stay and finish. Could be something as stupid as not finishing until 11am-midday. Which has the knock-on effect of totally ruining my weekend as I can't easily swap-over to make use of my Sunday. :( I hate Friday nights!

2 days and 2 nights 6-6 then 6 days off (from Sept to May)
2 days and 2 nights 6-6 then 4 days off (June, July & August)
During the summer months we have a 22 day summer holiday which moves every year.

Basically during the winter I work 12 shifts a month, which is nice.

I did one night shift when I was younger and hated it (10pm - 6am)

mon-fri, 8am-4pm for me now. Finish work, gym, food, chill, good sleep. Or enough time to go out, have a few drinks or whatever then sleep. I dont function well with less than 8 hours sleep
