Going up to Newcastle on Sunday for my heart transplant assessment at the Freeman Hospital.

I have about 3 nights out of hospital though. I am staying in a place called Jesmond. What's it like? Has it got any bars or restaurants, or am I better off getting a taxi to the city center? Is the city center far?

Being a southerner, I haven't got a clue about Newcastle.

Jesmond is sound, good mix of trendy office type and a good bunch of students, there's a fair few bars up there but its only about £5 into the town centre from there in a taxi if you fancy something a bit more lively.

Always found Jesmond was a nice place for drinks before town, or lazy Sunday drinking. As You Like It is a good bar/restaurant worth checking out. But yeah, it's one of the nicer areas of Newcastle - lots of students and posh folk :)

Definitely head into Newcastle if you can. It takes about 10 minutes on the Metro from Jesmond. Also check out South Shields if its a nice day as the beach is lush.

And luck with the assessment :)

Jesmond is a great place to start, some nice restaurants and as people have said, Newcastle City Centre is only 5-10 minutes away.

I'm from Newcastle, Jesmonds a nice place and Newcastle center is small enough that you can walk most places have a good look about :)

Good luck with the assessment!

A heart transplant assessment? And you want to know if its got any bars? Hmmmmm, unless you are drinking fresh orange or something then i'll let you off...
