Does this guy post in GD?

Very different to putting up a sign flat out saying you won't server a certain group of people.

As people have said, technically you CAN refuse to serve anyone, however that is not a license to discriminate as you see fit.

I've actually had an experience on this matter - I have dual nationality and I am mix race (half white). I went down to tenpin's when I was 18-19 and tried to get a pint of beer and play some bowling - my British passport was being renewed at the time so only had my other passport as ID. The guy serving told me that my "ID" wasn't valid as its not a British passport. Told him that I want to speak to the manager - the manager told me the same thing... I kinda wish they just had a sign up saying "British only, we're a bunch of racists" so I didn't have to waste my time stepping foot in the place,
because clearly, if you don't have an ID that says you're British, you won't get served anyways - and they have "the right" to do this in a more hidden fashion.

Or it's because they have no idea if it's real or not as they've never seen one before
When it comes to ID you stick with what you're sure on because if it is a set up then it's your back side on the line, much easier to just refuse if you're not sure.

The Queen herself would accept my non-British passport as ID. Blatantly saying that we can't serve you because it's not a British passport is quite poorly worded even if that was the case.

Putting up a sign is a good indication...:p
My point was it could be done legally, he just didn't go about it very well. My words don't work very well this morning :p

The queen wasn't who you were trying to buy beer from though so it's irrelevant.
Granted they could have explained better, but it's no reason to jump straight to the OMG it's because I'm not white isn't it!!!!! reasoning.

Already covered but risking their licence on a form of ID they would have no idea if it was real a fake is all that happened. Poorly explained at the time, maybe, but surely retrospectively you had realised that.

Also

You racist. You are half black/asian/chinese (or whatever the other half is) :D

:D

That's not the point though, my point is that they can be racist without even anyone having to know about it. I think it would make it easier if they just say it straight instead of doing it in a more secretive way.

I don't get it

Your point was that they were automatically racist because they refused to except a foreign ID, yes they may have been racist or they may have just had no idea what to check for on an ID they'd never seen before.
You basically made a judgement on them because their race was different to yours, that's racism too ;)
Maybe I'm just cynical because I've had the "Is it because I'm black" crap pulled on me plenty of times, while the black guy stood next to me could knock them back for the same reasons and they just disappeared quietly.

Not talking about the particular incidence I've had, I'm talking about the case in general. I honestly don't care if they were racist towards me or not, as I am not offended, I was more angry about them wasting my time. I honestly don't believe in racism garbage, I believe that everyone should have an open mind and be able to say their reasoning directly and make it open for debate rather than doing it in secrecy i.e. certain behaviours may correlate statistically to a race, which makes it more open to debate rather than just hammering away with typical racial stereotyping.

edit: I am not saying we should judge every single individual based on these "statistical facts" - just saying that people should be wary of common behaviours that they may have and be taken into account.

double edit: In relation to the topic - if the man had indeed experienced that many eastern european's ate the carp, does it not make sense for him to put that sign up if he had no resources to watch them closely so it can be dealt with individually? He has a completely valid point or completely debatable at the very least.

but it had nothing to do with your race, it had to do with your id document which at best could be nationality (yes believe it or not black people can be British too!!!) but not race.

however you know full well there are numerous recognized id card schemes in this country you could have filled out and attained while your pass port was unavailable.

but ho hum i suppose, sod logic when we can scream RACISMS!!!!

Half white, half what else?

Also, it may just be an assumption, but them saying you need a British passport as ID isn't necessarily an issue to do with race, but rather that they don't know how a foreign passport is supposed to look, so for all they know it could be fake.

A foreign passport not being valid ID isn't the same as being refused because you don't have ID that says you're British.

Racism or nationalism, same idea - discrimination. You missed my point, see #51 following up further on my point.

Not really, at most you were discriminated against for not having what they deemed as valid ID.

I highly doubt race came in to it. Not being British doesn't necessarily say much about your race, and it's hardly nationalism either. It's been said by a few people now, how do you know they know what a foreign passport is supposed to look like, and how to spot a fake?

The race card is played way too hard and way too often.

I remember reading a story about how some "eastern europeans" (ROMA GYPOS) killed and ate some geese and ducks from some park lol.

except it's neither it's just that your passport from wherever is not a recognized id at that establishment.

you said they were "omg only British people can drink here" well you fail to notice that your dual citizen ship makes you British, so no they aren't being nationalist as they refused a brit.
