*** The official Sony Xperia S thread ***

My battery page always says 'Discharging' (Except when plugged in of course). Is this normal or is something amiss? I kinda felt like battery life was a bit naff...

Would be grateful if you could check on your phones to see if its normal..

That's fine. That just means your battery is being used. All phones are discharging unless they're powered off or being charged.

How naff is your battery?
Mine is a year old, I unplug it every day at about 8am and still have about 30% left when I plug it back in at about 11pm.

Rumours that the JB update might start seeding at the end of this month.

Question. My warranty is almost up. My screen went funny (darker on the right side) but through laziness and not wanting to go back to my N82 for a week I never sent it back to Sony.However I did ring them up and generate a ticket. . The phone has just had a stroke and just started acting weird plus I think the dark side of the screen is becoming less responsive. Is it naughty of me/am I allowed to still send it back for repair (providing I'm still within the year)?

A Sony rep in Poland has apparently said the JB update will be out in a few days.......you know how cynical I am when it comes to Sony phone updates, they have done this countless of times only for the statement to be retracted. Probably a PR stunt, we will know by the end of the week.

Thanks, assume there is a way to uninstall CWM? Does flashing a stock ROM do it?

As far as I know, flashing the rom properly with flashtool or the other sony software should remove root and CMD

On another battery related note, recently there have been two things that have helped to prevent a lot of those random wake locks.

The 1st thing that has been mentioned many times was freezing or removing the com.sonyericson.android.wakeup.apk from the system apps folder.
The second one was the fast-dormancy-wakeup.apk also in the system apps folder. You can just rename the apk extension or move it onto the sd card, and reboot the phone.

On my phone at least, removing this fast dormancy apk really has made a big difference reducing battery drain when the screen is off.
Obviously root is needed to get access to the system apps. and I would back up these files if you deleted them. Especially the fast dormancy apk, because I think I saw someone mention they had 3g problems after getting rid of it. Although my 3g is fine. So trying to remember where I saw that.

SFR, the French telecommunications operator, has published a timetable detailing when software upgrades for Android and Windows Phone handsets are expected to arrive. Interestingly, under the Sony segment, SFR says that the Xperia S Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is expected in May 2013.

Finally (lets not forget a Polish Sony rep recently claimed the update would be rolling out within days) - though I will have my S4 before then. You won't be missed Sony ;):p:o

It is official now :D

Sony Mobile has just confirmed that the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia ion and Xperia acro S will commence from the end of May*.

* May 31st 11.59 pm ;)

I will be dammed! They have only gone and released JB for the XS (I believe the first update in 8 months!!).

The time has come. Sony has stuck to its word and the Xperia S Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update is now rolling out. The Sony Mobile France team just tweeted out the following: “Xperia S: The deployment for 4.1.2 build has just begun for the first builds.” [translated] We don’t know exactly what build this rollout relates to, so please comment below and provide screenshots when you receive the update.

I noticed an odd issue with my Xperia. When plugged in and charging the top and bottom of the touch screen are really dodgy and unresponsive. Unplugged its fine.

^ that seems to get mentioned a lot. As far as I can remember its not serious. Are you using the original sony charger?

Looking forward to this update being released so I can finally wipe the whole phone and start fresh. It had gotten rather laggy at times and have been trying to wait so I can just wipe it once.

Well Sony France say the update is out.......though haven't seen one person say they actually have it.

Nordic countries usually first to get updates;

Just contacted the support on the Norwegian site, here’s what I got: “Unfortunately we have no date on when Jelly Bean comes to the Xperia S in the current situation. Stay tuned for the latest information note on our product blog.”

I pray we don't have to endure the SI number debacle that plagued the release of ICS. Sony reps on chat are just saying "subject to change" or "may vary depending on region". This better not be another delaying tactic e.g. announce completion/release but not actually seed until say June (they can say "End of May" was true).

Hmmm, I hope this update improves the phone a lot. I cannot stand my xperia S and recently it's had a problem with showing messages and then notify that it's either blank or I have some silly 214756982 new messages!

Here's to hoping O2 will be fast to release this update :rolleyes:

3 days later and nothing. Had a look on Sony France's Twitter page and it's just a bunch of people saying they haven't got it yet. Sony responded with:

Deployment is underway. In the 1st day, next week for others - 24th May

Unlocked phones first.

More BS from Sony....

Well the Sony Mobile Germany social team has confirmed that their French colleagues were mistaken and that the JB update for the Xperia S has not started yet. Whilst the news might be disappointing to some, at least we can stop running around like headless chickens trying to figure out who has updated and instead wait for hard evidence of the rollout. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too much longer for some firm news on the matter.

This wasn't an over eager Sony developer like previous times. Uncoordinated and unprofessional.
