It's unlikely to be worth much but you can ask for a domain appraisal on Acorn Domains.

Depends on how far you want to go back. I doubt that the laws around trademarks and copyrights have changed, but the perception of CEOs and Judges probably has to reflect the times that we live in.

For example, in 1996 I doubt a CEO would have had much interest in having an online presence. Even if they did, I doubt that the courts would force a handover because they didn't see the Internet becoming what it is today.

That being said, if the company in question has no interest in acquiring the domain name that incorporates its trademark, the domain name itself has no value anyway, making it a rather moot point.

e: I feel it may be prudent to point out IANAL and have no background in law, but I do follow these things.

That would depend entirely on the domain. There are plenty of generic words that could have been bought that would be worth millions today.

It could be Ambergris.
