Audi A3 - Tyre recommendation NEW INFO

Long story short, I need 4 tyres for my A3 2.0 TDI S-Line (170). I'm not skimping on budgets and I refuse to buy premium because the majority of my miles are on the motorway commuting to work. Budget is between £300-400 fitted unless justified to spend extra.

After a quick browse the Barum Bravuris 2/XL are jumping out. £303 fitted from National Tyres. Various forums and tyrereviews.co.uk seem to be rating them quite highly.

What do you guys recommend?

EDIT: Camskill are churning out Firestone SZ90 and Avon ZV5 for sub £300, no fitting. Any catch?

Just get Goodyear F1A2s, you'll almost get 4 in your budget.

Depends on your viewpoint, I find I make use of decent tyres more often braking to avoid morons on my 20k a year motorway commute than hooning it around, so I'll always have decent tyres.

Barnum aren't a brand I'm familiar with but for £100 more it's seems a pretty sensible investment to get something decent.

You make a fair point. Time is of the essence though. I need to get these changed pronto - impact damage on my front left (looks like a egg coming out of the side) and MOT just round the corner. £100 more than the Barum Bravuris 2/XL though.

You'll be able to get 4 continental sport contact 5's for less than £450 fitted if you shop around. For me it's either these or the Goodyear F1A2s but from previous experience with "sporty" Goodyears they don't last as long as Conti's.

So the majority of your miles are on the fastest roads in the country where you are most likely to come across standing water etc? Seems like a good argument for quality rubber to me - if you ever need to stop on the Motorway you'll probabl want to do so very quickly and very safely.

Fair point. Since 90% of the time I'm stuck at 61 with cruise control on, rather than bombing around a housing estate I just don't see the value in spending extra over mid-range tyres. Besides, I'm driving a very average car, not an S3.

:)

The laws of physics don't care whether you've got a 1.6 FSI or a remapped S3 when you need to stop quickly in an emergency. You don't need to spend big money - you can get Contisport Contacts or similar for under £100 a tyre. You've got an Audi so £100 a tyre isn't really excessive or un-neccesary expenditure :)

Your Audi is no place to fit a Barum tyre.

Any recommendations to go with the Conti's?

Great deal, it would be rude not to snap it up. How much does it typically cost to turn up at a garage purely for fitting?

EDIT: A set of 4 will also come with a £40 Goodyear fuel card, not bad.

Narrowed down to the following on Camskill, what do you guys think?

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 - £327.00 + £40 Free Fuel
Firestone SZ90 - £279.60
Dunlop Sport 01A SP - £319.60 + £40 Free Fuel
Falken ZE914 - £301.20
Dunlop SportMaxx RT SP - £327.00 + £40 Free Fuel
Pirelli PZero - £328.40

Mate has an A3 170 Quattro and swears by the F1 AS2 he fitted. Not even expensive really either. Get those and be done with it.

£12 per corner for fitting at a local indie garage.

£338 (incl P&P) + £48 = £386 in total, £346 if you include the £40 free fuel. Not bad, not bad at all :D
