Tomb Raider Graphics glitch GTX670 - any solutions?

Hi,

Thought i'd while away a wet Saturday afternoon trying out the new Tomb Raider game that I'd seen so many positive reviews of.

However, after about an hours play I ran into some graphical corruption that looked just like this one that I have found on youtube

I'm running version 1.01.742.0 of the game on an Nvidia GTX670 using the 314.22 drivers. My system is completely prime, furmark and game tested stable.

Pressing escape and going back to the main menu and loading the previous save clears the issue, but I was wondering if anyone knew what was causing it in the first place and how I can avoid it in future?

Furmark isn't that great tbh. I never had any issues with tomb raider. Do you have your gpu overclocked at all?

GPU is at stock - doing some more reading at the moment and looks like there are quite a few people seeing this 'tessellation bug' as it seems to be referred to.

In the last week i've completed Crysis 3 which hammers the GPU and not seen 1 single artifact or other GPU related issue and I've probably clocked up several hundred hours of gaming with this GPU with no issues at all - so I'm pretty sure this isn't hardware related

Any other green team users here managed to prevent it from happening

Going through the comments on that vid, another Nvida user posted the same glitch, driver or/and another software conflict perhaps as it isn't a widely known issue out with TR afaik.

Possible solution could be to run lowest in game settings until you get out the cave???

Next time it happens, press pause and turn off tessellation. If you don't have it on already then I don't know.

It used to happen to me until I gave up on that setting.

Just play something else :)

Had the same problems myself except it was with the 313.96 driver which I went back to after getting multiple random crashes using the current 314.22 driver. It was either get random game crashes or the mentioned graphic glitch. Not too impressed by the performance on Tomb raider or Bioshock Infinite personally with my 670.

sumer

I know that it never helps when people say this but...

I've got the identical graphics card as you and running both TR and BS/Infinte on 314.22 just fine. So like a lot of these sorts of problems / issues, there's probably a bit more to it than it just being an Nvidia problem. Annoying when this sort of thing happens.

Tomb Raider has been fine for the past week but i'm a tad disappointed at Bioshock Infinite. I play on every setting maxed out at a steady 60fps with vsync on but I will get the random dip to 30-25 fps which is obviously really noticable. Either i'm expecting too much or something is up, wouldn't say its definitely an nvidia problem but hey, this is one of the niggles of pc gaming.

Interesting regarding Bioshock. Not played it that much yet. So Ill keep an eye open and see if I have the same issue.

" but hey, this is one of the niggles of pc gaming" indeed it is :)

Just came across this on the Bioshock Infinite Performance thread regarding fps drop:

Vsync Bug Fixed :D
D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\BioShock Infinite\Engine\Config\BaseEngine
Scroll Down To [SystemSettings]
VsyncTo60WhenUnder30=False Change to VsyncTo60WhenUnder30=True

Save and close and Right click BaseEngine and set to read only.

Tested on known part where frame rate hits 30FPS now its a solid 60fps.

Ive done what it says but wont try the game til tomorrow, hopefully its a fix.

Hi.... I've been playing Bioshock Infinite for a while now and like you have commented... rock solid 60 FPS (even in intensive fights). Then all of a sudden, I walk into an area and frame rate drops to 30 FPS for no apparent reason (IE. it doesn't look graphically intensive at all!). Even looking down at the floor (IE. just one solid texture) does not boost the frame rate. Walk into another area (which looks graphically a lot busier) and hey presto... 60 FPS again.

Question... did you try the above "fix" and did it appear to do anything?
