AMD Clarifies 2013 Radeon Plans

It's all been posted before, in other words old news.

Sorry it does not meet your standards of news worthy items.

What would your age limit be on articles? I will let you know so i don't accidently waste your time.

If it's a 'not really needing the extra performance' itch, wait until you need the performance.:)

That's what my head keeps telling me tommybhoy, and certainly what I would say to anyone else....however, it is becoming harder to ignore the 'buy' button :)

I was in your shoes with two highly clocked 6950>70's and caved in last year when the pricing became more realistic, the game bundles were the deal clincher tbph, but one highly clocked 7970 wasn't enough and was simply meh.

I added a 7950 for CrossFireX and only then was there a real boost, taking into account I'm a 1080p 120 Hz 3D user where it comes in very handy indeed.

The 7970 came to an early demise though and went 7950 CrossFire and the performance is very similar indeed on my setup, I doubt 70 CrossFire will achieve any visual difference in game.:)

Do you think they all joke at AMD about "You blabbed about Mars!"

lol....

Someone at AMD has been blabbing, leaking roadmaps, or apparent roadmaps...... reviewer after reviewer has been posting those 'leaked' roadmaps and specification tables over and again for the past 6 months.

The thing is even if they were true AMD are in the habit of changing their roadmaps every other week.

AMD Reportedly Launching Radeon HD 7990 “Malta” Dual-Chip GPU on 22nd April

This can't be right surely...

It has been reported by PHK over at Expreview forums that AMD would be launching their upcoming Radeon HD 7990 “Malta” GPU on 22nd April 2013. AMD has been preparing their reference Radeon HD 7990 card since a while and was only showcased recently at GDC 2013 (Games Developer Conference).

AMD Possibly Launching Radeon HD 7990 Malta on 22nd April

The AMD Radeon HD 7990 reference dual-chip beast, previously known as New Zealand is codenamed Malta. It was showcased at GDC 2013 which revealed that it still carried the triple fan cooling solution shown over a year ago. It was also mentioned that the Radeon HD 7990 powered the 17 minute gameplay trailer of Battlefield 4 which is being developed by DICE. A few days ago, a reddit user who was later revealed to be a developer on the Frostbite 3 engine posted a picture of his test setup that was running the Radeon HD 7990 in CrossFireX mode.
AMD has been quiet till now and haven’t released any concrete information on the specifications. The Radeon HD 7990 is supposedly carrying dual Tahiti cores however the could be new cores based on the GCN 2.0 architecture too. Its a possibility since last month, AMD released their Radeon HD 7790 GPU which carried the Bonaire XT GPU. The Bonaire XT GPU itself falls as a GCN 2.0 part which would fully be unleashed in Q4 2013 with the arrival of HD 8000 series discrete GPUs. Another thing to note is that, while the custom AIBs built HD 7990 GPUs require three 8 Pin connectors, the AMD reference “Malta” design only requires two 8 Pin connectors which points at a power draw of 375W. At the same time, the Radeon HD 7990 GPU is rumored to be faster than the custom built boards from their AIB partners. One thing is for sure that given the time AMD has spend developing there reference solution, their might be some super secret tech their hiding from us, one which would only be made clear on launch.

It wouldn't surprise me, the 7790 looks suspiciously held back, it almost looks like it would match or overtake the 7850 if it also had 32 ROP's and a 256Bit Bus instead of 16 ROP's and 128Bit.
As I had already explained on post #1 the 7790 has 40% more SP's clocked the same and much higher clocked memory vs the 7770, and yet uses the same power.

Clearly there is a hell of a lot more performance per watt in the new GPU's.

I don't think we will have long to wait and see. :)

I've got a Samsung 120Hz and I'm starting to see frame rates down in the 60 range or even lower with everything maxed out on some of the newer games. I don't use the 3D much but I like to see my fps well up over 60 :D

Looks like i'm going to stick with my card until next year then, I don't think upgrading to a 7950 or even 7970 is going to be cost-effective as the gains won't be big enough.

Get another 7850 for CF to tie you over, then when it comes to it you have 2 of them to sell used, put the proceeds from them toward an 8950.

The 7850 doesn't even need to be new, get a used one from the MM so your not going to loose much money on it when it comes to selling it on. ;)

I'm really pleased that they will continue with the 7 series for at least this year, gives me a year to save for a new card:p
Would be ideal though if they could actually get crossfire to work, but that's the same with nvidia and sli it's a balllllllllllllll acheeeeeee

Trouble is I couldn't fit another 7850 on this mobo, there's not enough gap.

:(

Poor decision IMO. Companies cannot afford to sit still, especially in the gaming/IT industry.

It's about time we saw a new 8000 series before Nvidia strike with their 700 series.

Oh I don't know about that, I think Nvidia should go first this time, and AMD may be wise to wait for Nvidia to show their hand.

If it was me, i'd release the product when it's ready. People like myself out there have money ready to spend on what ever one comes first. Don't wait for the other one to make the move.

There is a couple more GPU's coming before then, certainly a very good and proper 7990. there might even be a better 7970 coming, or a 7980?

there will be some things to burn your money on.

where is this MM you talk about?
