motherboard defaulted voltage too high

What would cause this?
I was paying around trying to see if I can get my CPU to boot with at least 4.8.
Using a fixed voltage set at 1.45. When I checked CPU z it showed 1.964....

Instantly reset, back into the bios where it shows fixed voltage 1.45...but next to it showing 1.964....so I started up into defaults, checked it again and its still showing this silly high voltage.

Specs:

X79 extreme 9
3930k
7970.

Just wondering what caused this, if its the mobo I'll gladly burn it and get a proper one lol.

It sounds potentially like a BIOS bug, either misreporting the voltage as higher than it really is or setting it higher than you've asked it to. Try a BIOS update - the fact that you got into Windows with nothing untoward happening suggests that it isn't really 1.964V but I wouldn't be keen on assuming that!

What voltages are other programs showing? I'm thinking it's a reporting error.

1.9v I'd be expecting some form of smoke.

updated the bios to the latest and still showed the same, I originally assumed it was a bug but after booting after updating it would instant bluescreen. That's when I turned it all off and took out the battery.

Only checked bios and CPU z. With that kind of voltage i'm expecting a dead CPU lol.

Does the motherboard come with bundled software? If so try that :)

It's like how hwmon says my psu is only throwing out 9v on the 12v.

Edit: so it's showing 1.9v in bios too?? If so asrock have seriously borked something.

Edit 2: I don't suppose it's auto setting an offset of +0.45v or something?

At work atm, I know or was set on a fixed voltage not the off set.
I'll upload some pictures to show when I get home.

It shows in the bios as 1.9v even though I applied a lot lower.

bios update didn't work, taking out the battery didn't work...might just buy a RIVE and be fore with it lol

Edit: using phone, loads of weird spelling :D

sounds like a bug to me, but as others have said, best to be sure, my 12v rail varies between 0.7V and 4.7V, but a multimeter in a molex plug was enough to assure me that alls well, though cpu voltage wont be so easy to test.
