Virgin Media Discussion Thread

People here may have seen my previous posts in this thread, i have recently been back in touch with virgins CEO office, essentially my area is over subscribed and they are refusing to give anymore credit there excuse is they given me enough credit over the last year...

I have emailed them again and advised them if they cant resolve my issue or atleast offer a substantial discount on my services then ill request a "deadlock letter" my understanding with this i am able to then forward this to the onbudsman?

im pretty much in the same situation as you medley...

Update on the doublespeed thing I posted about earlier.

Phoned VM this afternoon and was told that on the 24th engineers are scheduled to complete further work to my local area at 2PM and after this date I will be on 120Mb down and at least 10Mb up. I asked this a few times and she assured that I would "definitely" have the new speeds. I mentioned that the website was saying my area has been upgraded fully now yet I'm still on 100Mb down and 5Mb up.

She applied a £10 credit to my account out of the blue saying that because I mentioned the inaccuracy on the doublespeed website which was welcome.

Roll on the 24th, let's see if she was correct. I recorded the call so have a valid excuse to complain if it doesn't happen.

Still better than me. We got a speed boost in march. originally 104mb and supposedly 120mb for the boost, we got a whopping -10mb boost and are currently sitting at 90mb :(. the techie came round yesterday and was baffled.

Hopefully things change quick for you! 100Mb has been fine for me really, always get full speed but I do use the hub in modem only mode.

I got my speed boosted to 120mb a while ago. Get a solid 14.5Mbps from giganews. Dem linux distros come down fast.

Of course, virgin still sucks regardless of the fact I can pull top speeds.

Modem only mode, n40l acting as router. My hub randomly kills itself otherwise.

It's illegal to record your own phone calls by clicking the record button on your mobile during the call?

First I've ever heard of that.

Legally you need to make whoever your speaking to aware your recording the conversation, if they confirm its ok then its fine, though they do have the right to say they dont give you permission and to not proceed further with the conversation.

Does that mean the 10Mb upload is complete as well? Below the above on the doublespeed site it says:

I'm currently already on the 100/5Mb service as part of the early upgrade from 60 when I phoned up months ago to get them to flick me over to 100 early at no extra cost.
no...

the upload upgrade is separate...

also u mean 50 to 100?

Well the VM voice doesn't give you a choice, it just says they may be recorded for training purposes. I assume they have to say it anyway as a matter of course. As an individual recording for their own reference should they need to call back and refer to something I don't see it being a problem at all though surely?

no...

the upload upgrade is separate...

Yes I am fully aware of this, hence why I've been waiting several months for the regional upgrades here to be finished, which they now have...hence my call to VM as to why I'm still on 5Mb.

Edit*

No not 50 to 100. I'm already on 100 as they upgraded me early when I phoned up last about the delay in doublespeed upgrade, they just put me on 100 anyway and said the upload would double when the area was fully upgraded which the website now says is done.

So by the 25th I should be on 120 down and 12 up.

Should be...

the doublespeed checker is only for the download upgrade. just because the doublespeed checker says area complete doesn't mean the upload upgrade is also

That's not the point, VM told me to keep an eye on the doublespeed website, this is the whole point I'm trying to make. VM tell you one thing but it turns out to be bunk. This is why I've posted the above.

if u was on 60 u shouldn't got 100 because 60 isn't part of double speed to 100. only if u was on 50.

The speed upgrades will mean the following changes:

  • 10Mb increased to 20Mb
  • 20Mb and 30Mb increased to 60Mb
  • 50Mb increased to 100Mb (then 120Mb when it rolls out)
  • 100Mb increased to 120Mb (when 120Mb rolls out. 100Mb customers will also see a price drop)

Yes, I know this.

The doublespeed upgrades were up to 18 months away when they announced them by letter to me so I complained since I only pay VM for broadband and have TV/phone with other providers, this means my cost for broadband works out more expensive and I asked if they could just flip me over to the 100Mb service as I was on 60Mb.

After much to and fro they did regardless of whether I was entitled to it only if I had 50 or not. The upload went up from 3Mb to 5, not 10 as this area was not fully upgraded yet. That's when they said on the phone to keep an eye on the doubelspeed website which will tell me when it's all complete here.

tbh u shouldn't believe anything from the VM customer service.

the only way to get 10 Mb upload early, is to call VM and ask them to change u from xxl100 to 100.. I did this

xxl100 is 100/5 then upgraded to 10, 100 is 100/10.

Well I rang virgin today and told them I was moving. Ive had to agree to another 12 month contract but they giving me free upfrade to 30Mb plus a new router and they doing the install for £10

So people on 30Mb, are they doubling the speeds to 60Mb :D
