I'm old school, I'll only resort to downloading mp3s if I can't get it on CD. But since Play has gone a bit crap, where do people get their CDs from, other than Amazon?

Play used to be good for signed copies, free posters and other oddities but all that has stopped now.

Used to get stuff from CDwow, which has become WowHD, but other than that I'm a bit lost. Anywhere that does a bit more than just the CD such as the signed copies is what I'm particularly looking for.

Those are the 3 places that I use too. Also asda online can be good for new releases. Typically though, I'll only use amazon now, since I have prime.

If a band has their own online shop, I'll use that.

Mainly Amazon and the marketplace on there for some cheaper second hand stuff.

I was also impressed with the slightly different selection and prices Fopp offered compared to HMV and other mainstream stores (it was still an independent part of the HMV group but on idea whats going off now). Unfortunately they appear to be suffering a bit since HMV went under and the Nottingham branch has gone down hill a bit :(

Online retail:
- Amazon.co.uk
- Discogs.com
- Official band/label website (eg. http://www.relapse.com/store.html)
- Band page on Bandcamp (if they offer CDs)
- 101cd.com
- Supermarket online entertainmentstores (eg. ASDA, Sainsburys, Tescos)

I find Discogs the best for rare and imports.

Don't forget going to gigs where they often have the artist signing afterwards, or in the case of lesser-known/more intimate gigs, just wander up to them in the crowd after their act and buy them a pint and then ask for a signature ;)

But for normal albums, I tend to get them from the artists approved re-sellers, or Bandcamp etc. Gotten a few out of print CDs off Amazon before.

if it's something new, i don't mind paying a couple of quid more to get it from a local shop. but anything that's been out awhile will be much cheaper on amazon so i go there.

It depends what sort of music you like. I'm into my hiphop, so use undergroundhiphop.com

They do lots of signed copies, posters, promotional cd's etc.

They are based in US, but ship internationally and are competitively priced

Amazon, Discogs and ebay (if you have some patience).

Be a little careful with discogs as it seems a little hit and miss with international rates (some american sellers t&c's up postage a lot) but it's a very good resource to at least see if you are overpaying for something.

Ebay you can pick up some bargains too, all about being calm and having a good rummage (winning a few things for 99p at the moment that I want).

Classic going to gigs/direct from a band is always sensible but they don't always tour to easy to reach places (curse noise restriction laws in the UK for that)

I scout out the prices on www.billybargain.co.uk
Most tends to come from Amazon these days, also bought a couple of used albums from zoverstocks who sell through Amazon, they have over 1 million feedback so are not a Mickey Mouse organisation. Normally you can pay like 1p for the Album plus £1.25 postage.

No idea about signed copies etc as that doesn't appeal to me.

Seriously considering a spotify subscriptionm. I spend about £20 on music a month and most of it is on Spotify...

I'm thinking about this as well.

I currently buy music on itunes and then either stream or dock my ipod onto my Zeppelin air , I'm just wondering if it possible to stream spotify to my speaker and dock the ipod with spotify playing?

amazon - good old zoverstocks (musicmagpie) - other peoples loss is my gain :)
got a few hundred dirt cheap cds in the last year or 2.

I use Amazon / Zoverstocks as well.

They are good for getting older stuff at cheap prices, if you don't mind waiting a few days for delivery or the slightly poor condition of some of the items. But for £1.27 I not going to complain.
