I'm suprised they still had bins there. I recall the IRA used to put bombs in bins in London so most were removed.

Sydney removed the bins from near terrorist targets about 4 years ago but outside the White House it was the day of this attack!
 
Looking on google street view, I could only see one camera at the scene of the first explosion. That looks like a door monitoring camera so probably wasn't enough coverage anyway.

For reference, the only trash can is about 15 metres further than the explosion, so unless it was in a temporary bin... the only other option is the mailbox, and whatever the other container was next to that mail box (of course it may be years since the google map images were taken, so things may have changed). To me it looks further back than those boxes anyway, going from the video. Not that it really matters, but it makes it more likely a bag was just dropped in a crowd... meaning there is the possibility of it being a plant not that long before detonation. (i.e. the culprit may be on camera).

The US authorities will know whether it was in a bin or post box etc so i'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

Think it's been mentioned already but the pressure cooker bomb, as far as I know, was a common IRA technique.

As I am watching the horrific syndicated pictures of the Boston bombings, I think to myself about all those Americans with Irish family ties and background, who gladly poured dollars into the collection boxes in Irish pubs and clubs in Boston and elsewhere, to support the IRA and other Irish terrorist groups. They can now see first hand on their own streets, the carnage and death caused to innocent people that occurs when bombs are indiscriminately detonated in busy urban areas. Perhaps they might, just might, for a moment reflect on the fact that their joyfully made contributions to help "the boyos" back home, were used to buy Semtex to make bombs that devastated British cities for years, and were used to kill and maim innocent British men, women and children. I sincerely hope this does occur to them, but somehow I don't think it will

ya these pics got me wondering - for an event where you are watching - its not like you have a coat rack for your bags etc ... wondering where they are.
 
Must admit the second picture of the two people dressed the same does look pretty suspect?!?
Rucksack looks full, heavy (hence both straps), very well done up/secured plus the way they are stood back near the buildings seems a little strange if you had gone to watch the race?!?!?
That said it could all be completely innocent but the police need to check all these leads out 100%!
Would be amazing if the power of the web detectives out done the FBI :p

**Plus I think the GIF in the last pic is the person of interest that the FBI are looking for

I'm a little confused by that one too.

Incredible work for random internetters though, even if there is nothing to the pictures then it will at least lead to suspects being identified and subsequently eliminated from investigation. It's crowdsourced policing.
 
The last pic clearly shows someone legging it seconds after the explosion (which to be fair would be exactly what I would do)
However the FBI have stated that they are trying to locate a young looking male seen running from the scene with shredded clothing seconds after the explosion!

That seems a fairly natural reaction though and I'm not sure why you would stand next to a bomb you put there yourself. Hopefully he can be located at least and spoken to.

Yes, they look like undercover police to me clearly wearing earpieces.

The guy running away with shredded trousers looks like the light-skinned Egyptian wearing the white baseball cap in the earlier photos.
