Defiance - New SyFy series

Terrible. Corny at times. Seemed very similar to Tera Nova. Typical " WE'RE AMERICANS, THIS IS OUR HOME!! HOO-HAA" nonsense at the end, seen it several times before.

Will not watch again. Sticking to Falling Skies :)

I thought this was OK... Yes CGI was terrible but the good Sci-Fi I've seen are more of the older and those CGI didn't put me off. It'll all boil down to the lore and storyline. Will give it a few more episode before I know which side of the fence I'm on.

Not playing the game so don't really bother me if there's a tie in to some MMO that just focus on shoot shoot loot.

Wait I missed that quote, rehash of terra nova?
While this may not last or be as good as people hoped, Captain Rave did you even watch Terra Nova? It's.... not the same at all.

It's comparing apples and oranges, one was time-travel, dinosaurs, 1 colony and the story didn't progress much till the last episode :|
This is a fixed timeline, in the future, aliens, post worldwide event and has yet to pick up..

The formula is exactly the same...

- they are stuck in a generic town. Defiance, Terra Nova, they are basically the same (and had very smilie at CGI e.g. The surrounding mountains)
- enter hero who is master of everything and becomes the towns sole reliance after 1 day of showing up: Shannon Family, Mercenary and Daughter
- they both have some kind of catalyst, time machine, alien attack etc
- enter the event that the hero solves: town attack, virus, traitor, kidnapping, sabotage.
- poor writing, then again, at least they gave us the gem, "I don't like the look of that scaffolding!" :D

Luckily I liked Terra Nova, so this works for me :)

Oh, and they will both only exist for one season :p

I wasn't expecting much after terranova but this seems pretty good and is more like what i expected from it, that had potential but was ruined by the overly family friendly vibe, hope this one does turn out to be good and gets at least five seasons, we've not had a decent mixed alien show for years.

Sigh... what a load of rubbish, they even tried to steal BSG music at one point. Why does it seem like everybody in the industry thinks it's not only ok to release such poorly thought out scifi trash but that it's actually going to work, is there a plan to try and kill it once and for all? :(

Utter gash and I'm getting really bored of seeing alien makeup consist of 'oh, lets just widen the bridge of their nose and give them contact lenses', boring, generic, rubbish.

I really got annoyed when they starting to fire SMG's down towards the valley. Really an SMG and on top of that, these giant aliens wearing huge armour are being shot down really easy.

Ah well, looking forward to Ballistic City instead from AMC, that's going to be awesome.

It'll do, considering the distinct lack of much else to watch. CGI is all over the place on quality it seems though, kinda hope they clean that up one way or another, though I kinda guess the CGI will be toned down for the rest of the season till the finale as it oh so often is.

A bit weird isn't it. I thought the CGI In space was stunning in HD, but some of the driving scenes were terrible, even computer game quality at some point. Maybe that was the aim

I guess they intended the driving scenes to be more live action, but couldnt get the space/budget to do it so inserted rushed out cgi
