If you think anarchic patriarchal attitudes towards women are limited to the developing world then I'm afraid I have some bad news for you. Have a read of Every Day Sexism, the sorts of morons who haven't evolved sufficiently to stop thinking with their **** are pretty prevalent in the developed world as well.

I worry that devices like this will only make matters worse and anger attackers, but at the very least they will help raise awareness of the issue.

You'd think, however if you have barbed wire on your property even with signs up giving a warning about it, if a burglar was to put their hand on it or any other part of their body and was to be harmed, they could sue you because of your 'duty of care'

That's not true, many buildings eg. banks, are protected with razor wire (never mind barbed) as a matter as routine and farmland makes extensive use of barbed wire. Duty of care is satisfied in such circumstances even without a warning sign. Even in cases where a burglar can sue it does not give them immunity from prosecution. No one in their right mind would admit rape even if they couldn't go to prison.
