*Breaking news* Waco, Texas explosions

It's not that far a stretch of the imagination to assume a terrorist attack (home grown or international). Nothing should be ruled out these days.

Probably an accident though

Big Big Explosion.

The video of the onlooker with his little boy is quite moving in that the poor kid was terrified, probably thinking it was terrorists.

My wild guess is that is just an accident. Reports say there was a fire at the plant preceding the explosion.

When I first heard this on the radio as I was waking up I thought "Oh, Ricin, Boston bombings, now Waco... all terrorism!". But looking at the footage I think it's more likely that it was simply an accidental fire which then triggered the explosion.

I watched documentary on Syria last night, for almost whole show I sat in disbelief at what I Was seeing, human beings know no end to their own ****ing ******** THEY create.

Both sides always think they are right ones, both sides think the other wants to wipe them out, both believe god is on THEIR side. Human madness at it's finest....

When both sides have lived in peace for over 20yrs all of sudden. This us versus them mentality is what's causing all this ****.

Off topic having a rant though cause of boston bombins and if this turns out to be related.

Lots of other obsession with things happening in the US right now, next we will be getting their no news, like the stuff that fills the end of the programme... "fireman rescues a cat" stuff.

I guess the news agencies need to keep in business, I mean what has happened in the the UK that is news worthy lately?

There is no proof its anything remotely untoward, but that doesn't mean its an accident either. Its easier to get a job in a fertiliser plant and have an "accident" than it is to build a bomb and sneak it in.

Maybe someone had a plan to blow it up and that was the easiest method, maybe a worker there had been made redundant, his wife left him, took the kids and he wanted revenge on a town he hated and did something on purpose.

Categorically stating its an accident isn't any less ridiculous than those posing the question that it COULD have been done on purpose.

Surely its too early to start making these kind of assumptions? I bet the authorities will struggle to even find the cause in the aftermath of an explosion of that magnitude. No doubt a fire will be blamed.

It was so lucky that happened at the weekend.

The side of the Northgate building that was destroyed was a creche.

I used to work for them and got some very interesting stories from some of the people who had been working for them at the time - cars that had literally just melted in lumps of metal/plastic/glass. On the other side of the building!

Well in relation to factories there was 10,000 tonnes of cardboard being burnt to the ground in Birmingham last night - 100 fire fighters trying to fight with the wind if I remember correctly.

Fertiliser plant explosions are pretty common - storage of dust is always difficult, but when the dust you're storing is explosive when in contact with moisture it's a little more difficult. I was in the south of France during the Toulouse explosion - could be felt for miles around.

I used to work for them too :) I remember seeing pictures of a 'fire proof' safe that had melted into a small block of nothingness.
