I used to work for them too I remember seeing pictures of a 'fire proof' safe that had melted into a small block of nothingness.

Fireproof safes are only "fireproof" for something like 2 hours at a certain temp, anything more than that and they burn just like anything else.

So it would be normal procedure to do so.
