Hi guys, looking to spec up a PC for about 200 quid, no OS/monitor/keyboard or mouse etc needed, just the base unit.

£200 quid or so budget. As quick a machine as poss.

500GB HDD
8GB ram
DVDRW
Cheap MATX case and PSU
Wireless card

The rest is as good as we can make it :)

What would you suggest is gonna be the quickest solution utilising onboard graphics, ideally something with VGA/DVI/HDMI built on would be great.

Do any onboard graphics chips support dual monitor too?

Thanks guys!

Just office/internet/youtube usage really, if it can cope with moderate games then even better.

I'll run through what I need incase we miss anything as the above misses a lot out.

£200 total budget for:

Motherboard
CPU
RAM
Hard Drive
DVD Drive
Case and PSU
Wireless Card

I think the IMP case with 500w will do the job, no real need for an expensive PSU.

Ta chaps :) Those A4 CPU's are really cheap!

I prefer MSI motherboard than ASRock and also the motherboard has HDMI and VGA port, unless you go for the Asus F2A55-M LE motherboard for £10 extra which has VGA, DVI and HDMI,

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI A55M-E33 AMD A55 Chipset (Socket FM2) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £40.99
1 x AMD A4-5300 3.40GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Dual Core Processor (AD5300OKHJBOX) £39.95
1 x Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G186C9K) £39.95
1 x Imp MicroATX Tower Case (500w PSU) £31.99
1 x **B Grade** Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-252-SE) £30.00
1 x OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £19.99
1 x TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless PCI Express Adapter (TL-WN781ND) £10.98
Total : £225.85 (includes shipping : £10.00).

I wouldn't trust the PSU in that IMP case, it'll kill the PC, better to get a small 400/450w PSU, Corsair or XFX would be perfect. Also check out grade-b cases for a saving, I know there are some Trinity boards there too.

I know you said 8gb of ram, but if it's just for general use with occasional gaming then 4gb would probably suffice and you could save yourself some pennies.

He'll need faster RAM if he is looking to game! There is 1866 & 2133 on offer today which would be a massive leap over the 1600 being spec'd.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G213C1K) £49.99

Total : £98.64 (includes shipping : £7.25).

You could save £10 and get the 1866, but at that price, it's too good to miss.

YOUR BASKET

Thank you everyone, appreciate all your suggestions, gonna have a good look at them all now and a browse on the site but they all look good, I hear what you are saying ref the PSU's :)

This is a question which is age old I guess! Which route would you go at this pricepoint looking at the great ideas above for machines, AMD or Intel?

Which is likely to "feel" the quickest for office/internet/youtube/video and music playing?

Most likely the AMD options because of the vastly superior onboard graphics.

£200 quid system as quick as poss

is this because you're ordering today? if not, it might be worth seeking out some 2nd hand kit. i recently bought the celeron g530/h61 mobo/8GB ram bundle in my sig for 60 notes on the MM.

I mean performance wise, so no need jump on it today, good idea mate - I should really look in there! lol.

Just to give you an idea of what you could get for £200, I built my folding rig/LAN PC for around £200 through buying things on the OcUK MM and a couple of things (RAM and case) on offer at OcUK.

This was only a few months ago, and the specs are:

Phenom II 955BE w' Zalman CNPS10X Quiet
Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 (AM3+)
8GB TeamGroup Elite 1600MHz
PNY GTX460 XLR8 Enthusiast Edition
500GB Samsung Spinpoint
500W OCZ CoreXstream
Xigmatek Helios XTK231
