Hospital day surgery staff rant.

how does a nurse not work for profit out of curiosity?

I think the thread roughly went: healthcare should not make profit therefore putting care at risk by making money, misinterpretation to that meaning staff should work for free, working for no profit (ie private sector with aim to make more money that you use etc) does not mean working for free as you will still have to pay tax, etc. Oh and apologies for getting you involved last night - should have kept away from me there not shown concern. You should know it's always the good guys that cop the flak!

Pretty much as Xordium just explained.

- Hurdurf said that medical services should not work for profit (or at least it should not be a priority).

- Muffin somehow seemed to think that this would mean medical staff working for free.

- I was highlighting the mistake in his statement; just because the medical service is not working for a profit, does not mean that the medical staff are working for free.

I was not claiming that nurse's don't work for profit; quite the opposite in fact.

The frustrating part is the reticence of people to complain. It is one of the few avenues available to us to find out how we are doing (we don't currently have a PAP but I am trying to put one in place despite concerns of clinicians). Ultimately, the more people complain about an issue, the higher up the risk register it goes and the more likely that tangible change will occur.

And for those that don't know, we can run off reports finding out virtually anything eg
All incidents/complaints on Ward 101
All incidents/complaints concerning wrong prescriptions
All incidents/complaints concerning Doctor Warrilow
All incidents/complaints concerning Oncology
and so on.

I've just added a new cell to our Claims template to put 'Named' Clinicians and we've got to fill it in for the last 5 years
