Hi all,

What is the best way to wash money that is dirty? Can you put it in the washing machine?

Not money laundering in the traditional sense but...

Without going into too much detail I have some money that was soaked in urine and needs to be cleaned before it can be paid into the bank.

Thanks for any advice.

I've had money go through a wash when I've left it in my pockets before but I'm not sure I would put them through deliberately.

How did they become soaked in urine?

just let dry and then deposit it via one of the automatic paying in machines in a different branch to your regular one.... then at least you won't have the embarrassment of handing the **** stained cash over the counter :D

They were in my uncles wallet when we found him dead on the floor in his flat last week :(

Apparently this is the phone number for the BoE's cash centre: 0113 2441711

That's the location you send damaged notes to in order to get them replaced with undamaged ones, so they're probably the best people to answer your question.

technically they are part of your uncles estate now and should be frozen until probate is granted, if someone finds out your uncle had a wad of £20s such as from bank statements, and that you took them and spent them, then you're gonna be in a world of hurt with the trustees of his estate, it could delay probate being granted and payment of the estate in accordance with the will.

Really sorry to hear that Guru. :(

The bank will take them, if you're embarrassed just explain or say you have a mildly incontinent elderly relative?

Bank statements would not prove an expectation of the exact sum of money being somewhere, such as a wallet. It could have been spent or thrown away in the street.

That, I suspect, is going to be very hard to prove. As in impossible without witnesses.

It has nothing to do with me. I think it's just a little crass taking money off a dead body when it could be part of someone inheritance.

I think the thread title of money laundering is very fitting.

That's a presumption, and one that I dare say isn't warranted. Cast your aspersions elsewhere and have some bloody respect.

It's none of your business.

FYI everything was left to us in the will, we have already dealt with all of that side of things hence it being untouched for a week. So it is part of the inheritance to us.

So the uncle gave you this money through a will or you just took it?

:/

Sorry for your loss OP, I'd just try putting it in the bank tbh.
