Hi there,

Looking to go away in August, for a week. Somewhere in Europe. I've never flown before so I'd like a destination which isn't too far away.

Date: Monday 5th August, and I'd need to be back in the UK on Sunday 11th August.

I am looking for somewhere with some sun, but I am not a massive "Clubber" so that rules out Ibiza etc.

Total budget for flights and hotel is around £400 per person, if this is even feasible? (2 people)

I do get some hefty discounts on hotels within the brand I work for, but it would obviously depend if they have any in that destination :p

If someone could point me into the direction of some locations/websites that would be great :)

I am a big fan of the canaries, so you could try Tenerife, or Gran Canaria.

Part of Spain, so classed as EU, but off the coast of Africa, so weather is pretty much awesome all year round.

Two of the big budget airlines fly there, so flights are pretty cheap.

Last year myself and the missus spent 7 days self catering at a reasonable four star hotel in August for £300 including flights, transfers, baggage and accommodation.

Turkey is another possibility to add to your list. Slightly longer flight, I think its about 5ish hours but to be honest the most annoying bit about flying is getting through the airports the either end. The actual flying bit you just sit there and read / sleep.

Turkey doesn't use the Euro either and for that reason is still pretty cheap.

£400 each for what? Flights and bed and breakfast accommodation with other meals on top? Or £400 all in ?

Either way its possible, the real difference will be the quality of your hotel.

If you want properly hot Turkey/Greece/Cyprus will be lovely. when i went to Turkey in late july a few years ago it was over 40 every day. If you want moderately hot (high 20's/low 30's then anywhere like Spain, Italy, south of France, etc will be fine.

Personally I'd look at somewhere like the canaries or Madeira which aren't Europe, slightly longer flights, but IMO more for your money at this price point

£400 for Flights and B&B. Other meals/beers etc. on top.

I am not sure how I will cope with it being too hot, so I'd probably be comfortable with moderately hot.

My worry is, with longer flights, what if I am that one really bad passenger who can't stand it? I have no idea how I feel about it to be honest.

Is it better to book a package deal or to keep everything separate (using SkyScanner for the flights and I am not too sure about the hotels, despite working in the industry! )
