Hi all,

I'm changing the wheel size on my car to go up a size and a little wider, I wanted second hand OEM but it seems people tend to not look after their wheels so I'm struggling to find a decent set

What are peoples thoughts on these? They are Team Dynamics Jade R, I think they look quite simple and suit the car but they are over budget at the moment however the plus of buying new is brand new wheels and brand tyres so I'm in two minds

They look fairly horrible. Where you not complaining about tyre prices previously and looking at Chinese tyres? If so is going bigger and wider sensible, go for a set of OEM 16s with decent rubber.

What car are they going on? I always get you mixed up with someone else, are you the guy with the omnipresent A1?

That's an awful pic, and sometimes nice looking wheels just look wrong on some cars. What size wheels are you going from / to, and what's your budget?

Yeah the pic is pants, they are going on that Accord, the guy with the A1 is called Black Hawk or something, I dont like the OEM wheels, they look completely lost in the arches

Its going from 17x7.5 ET55 to 18x8.0 ET45/40

Those wheels in the pictre are 8.5 though, they are quite an aggresive fitment, they are on a wheel stand in front of standard wheel, gives an idea of what they'll look like

I think I'm changing my mind though I might just pay a bit more and get the Rota's I want but need to save and front tyres are gettig low

In isolation, I think the wheels look nice, but the pic makes the tyres look uber low profile, and have a 4x4 effect, so you'd need to tinker with the suspension if you couldn't live with it.

As nice as the Accord is, I'm not sure it's something I'd look to mod personally. Even if it was lowered, to me it would look "different" rather than improved, & I've always felt that that's not a giant leap away from lexus lights and other questionable mods done to otherwise pleasant but normal cars in the name of "personalisation".

I'd hazard a guess that including a decent set of tyres you're probably looking at £1200-£1500 here? Personally I don't think it's worth it on that car, & I'd go on holiday instead or just put the money to one side for when the time comes to change car... :)

In your first paragraph are we talking about the standard or aftermarket wheels?

As for lowering I'm in two minds, I wouldnt do it for looks that would be a plus point I'd do it to firm it up a bit more

For a set of Rota's with Kumho KU39 tyres which I like as I've used them before it going to be around a grand, holiday is already booked and paid for and I'm looking at keeping this car least two years and I've only had it a month, when I bought it I knew the two fronts would last another one/two months before changing so it was always on the cards to change the wheels and tyres all round

With OEM 18's its around £400 for second wheels, around £200 plus for a refurb and then the tyres at around £400 unless of course you get lucky and they come with decent tyres

But yeah I think you're all right, I think it was a case of stepping back and not forcing myself to like something, they do look ok to me and on here most people prefer standard cars so I was expecting negative opinions but they arent worth the money to change

The aftermarket wheels. The standard wheels look like unremarkable, but not unpleasant OE wheels. As soon as you step into the aftermarket arena, it becomes remarkable, and in the way these wheels "fit" that car, not necessarily in a good way imo.

Thinking about it, didn't the Accord come with some decent looking anthracite 5 spokes?

Thats the pre-facelift "Penta" wheel, they are 17" and quite heavy, personally I prefer my current standard wheels to the Penta, if anything I want to to change up to 18" with a lower offset
