Former Nestlé CEO Says Water Is Food That Should Be Privatized – Not A Human Right

Eermm, we already pay for our water, through bills, or rates.
We've done so for years.
In most countries where water is free, it also isn't clean, or sanitized.
We're paying for the treatment of our water to make it clean to drink so we don't get sick.

I am unsure what Mr Nestle is on about. We either pay for it to be clean, or we take our chances in the third world with wells and Oxfam or troicre.

It already is. Private companies make it safe and deliver it. There's also laws on how much you can take out of rivers etc.

It's a total non statement.

Problem is when big corporations do deals with corrupt governments. For example, I could quite easily see the aid agencies being banned from digging wells etc, instead forcing them to distribute Nestle Water only as they have the commercial rights to all water consumption in a particular country.

Ridiculous thread and link. He doesn't say that.

He says water has a cost, like other foodstuffs, and should have a price which reflects that. So, there are obvious costs to do with water, which are reflected in our water bills... which he says should be the case. He then also says that those who can't afford to pay should be sorted out/still have access to water.

Paraphrasing from the relevant part of the video,

'Water is the most important raw material. And the question's whether they should privatise. On one hand there's NGOs saying it's a public right for free access to water. Then on the other hand it should be considered like all foodstuffs, and we should recognise it has value (with people paying the market price for it). But then we should take specific measures for the part of the population which has no access to water'

I don't see anything shocking in what he said. It's completely fair.

Agree with everything there.

Seems like people are taking what he's said out of context.

What is a "Human Right" anyway??

The big problem with sophisticated societies (IE anything more complex than wild hunter/gathering) is (and has always been) striking the the balance between personal Autarky and absolute collectivism!

Ill trade them my tap water for white chocolate crunch bars, fair deal if you ask me.....

....NO! Shut up teeth! You will take that abuse and be quiet!

Even though he is retired. Maybe he has a hidden reserve.
