Defiance - New SyFy series

As CaptainRAVE said in forumla its very similiar to terra nova with different window dressing - unfortunatly even terra nova for all its faults is way more watchable than this.

It very obviously borrows heavily, very heavily, from firefly, farscape and terra nova even tho its not exactly in the same vein as any of those shows.

Dragged myself through the episode 1 and 2 premier thats free on iTunes - it was never quite so bad I turned it off but the CGI as mentioned was painful (especially in HD even the space scenes weren't that great) and despite the characters themselves being well realised and for the most part individually quite watchable it didn't seem to quite sit right as a whole.

I'll probably give it another episode just to be sure but its gonna have to go through some strong story development to keep me interested.

Sigh... what a load of rubbish, they even tried to steal BSG music at one point.

It was the same composer.

I didn't hate it, but I definitely got a Falling Skies/Terra Nova vibe from it; cheesy, unremarkable acting, uninteresting dialogue, no atmosphere and some rather dodgy CGI.

I'll give it a few more episodes but I won't be surprised if it ends up being very predictable.

Everything is sub par in this show even down to Jeb Nolan being a poor man's Malcolm Reynolds.

Unless the all round quality improves from the pilot I can't see it lasting very long.

I watched the pilot and I quite like it, seems like a lovechild of Terra Nova, Firefly and Mad Max (Vehicles)...enjoyed a lot really, and to think (not sure if I'm correct on this) that this TV show is being made by Trion who made MMOs?

EDIT: Also I think (again, not 100%) that SyFy have already said YES to season 2...

I've only watched half of it so far and I thought it was ok, had a bit of trouble getting into it so far.
There didn't seem to be much backstory though. I had no idea what all the races were or what was going on.

At least it's Sci-fi on television though

Anyone else think that there is a bit of a Mad Moxxi vibe going on with this one?

(But with a bit less boobage)

Yes I can see that :D In fact the whole thing made me think of Sanctuary.

My only complaint really is a bit too much happened in that episode, it felt like they tried to fit a bit too much in.

I do agree that they seem to have cobbled together aspects of other successful shows and games.

Hopefully it'll develop into something good, it seems to have some promise

Ugh! Is it wrong i found the alien daughter hawt? :o

Why ever would you think that? ;)

Is it worth watching? seems a lot of people don't like it

I loved Terra Nova if that makes any difference.

Only one real way to answer that. See it for yourself :)

I personally thought it was a bit cheesy. It wasn't utterly awful, so I'm willing to give it a few episodes to see if it grows on me.

Will have a watch tomorrow, seems a lot of people think it's cheesy/has crap moments though :p

But then again i'm sure terra nova wasn't the most loved when it came to reviews.

Hottest girl in the show and they cover her face up!

quite a decent series based on first episode

will be something i continue to watch :)

can't say i imagine the game will be all that good though.

too much going on in the first episode, he sacrificed $3 million was it to save that town and all of it's people and not a single penny was given.

the white haired guy is a crappy villain imo, he brought out a bio man for a street fight, then threatened the guy after he won, the same guy who is supposedly a one man army was okay with giving him all of his hard earned money bar a few quid rather than just killing them or beating them up or taking it up with the mayor or lawman?

overall it was worth watching but barely, characters and story need improving a lot, the idea is cool though, needs major polishing before it becomes decent.

well after that fight I doubt they'd be like "oh hey heres 3mil" :p

He threatened the guy as he cheated and de-activated the beast rather than winning by fairly beating him, which are 'the white haired guy' said is a low blow which is against the rules (well i'd imagine if people had an off switch it'd be against rules to use it in a fight :p )

I quite like it :)
