'BOOTMGR is Missing' error

I just BSOD'd while playing some BF3. My PC rebooted itself, hung for a bit on the BIOS screen, and then displayed the message:

BOOTMGR is Missing
Press ctrl+alt+delete to restart

And now I can't seem to get it to boot no matter what I do. I've been into BIOS and tried to force boot onto my SSD but it's not listed. All I can see is my DVD drive and what I think is my HDD.

I have some ESSENTIAL data on that SSD which will take me literally months to catch up with if I can't recover this drive. So is there anything I can do to get this fixed?

Thanks in advance for any help.

clear the cmos and then try,if that doesn't work insert windows dvd and boot from dvd drive and try a startup repair

I take it startup repair will just fix whatever boot files are borked and will still leave all my other files intact?

Also does the fact that my SSD isn't showing up in my boot menu mean that it's likely dead, or is that just a consequence if this error?

it probably borked the bios/cmos,so clearing the cmos will reset it

and yh the startup repair just fixes startup issues, you wont lose any files

Excellent. Will try that now. Only little snag is that I can't find my Windows 7 64 bit disc. Will the 32 bit one work even though my install was 64 bit?

Any windows 7 disk will work fine, boot files are the same across all versions.

We see this problem quite often at work and it sometimes is signs of a hard drive failure, either that or a corrupt windows update that hasn't properly installed.

Try a startup repair first as already suggested.

Well that turned out to be a simple fix. I just reset CMOS and my SSD was selectable again. I managed to recover all the data I need so thanks a lot for the help.

Seems like everything is working fine so I suppose that's that.

Yeah, there's more to this than I originally thought. It worked fine for about half an hour but then my desktop became really slow, then it BSOD'd. Then when it rebooted I got that same BOOTMGR error again.

I've got it working again, by resetting CMOS, but I think there's something wrong. When I reset CMOS just now I plugged the SSD into the 2nd 6GB/s SATA port on my mobo. Maybe port one is dead? I'm going to try system restore now.

Anyone know what might be wrong here? Btw, here's a picture of the BSOD. Maybe there's some info on here that will help:

firstly backup your data then try it in the second data port and test it if it does it again its probably going to have to be a windows reinstall and I'd it still does tht your SSD is borked

from what ive read f4 bsod is to do with your ssd and or drivers

what board and ssd are you using? the port isn't dead its either an ssd firmare issue or motherboard bios or a driver

using intel sata3 ports?

I'm using a Crucial M4 128GB SSD and an Asus MIVGene-Z mobo. By sata 3 do you mean the 3GB/s ports? If so, then I've got them on my board but my SSD is plugged into one of the 6GB/s ports.

that's right then,the 6gb ports I ment

check to see what fw your running on the ssd, theres been a few issues lately with certain versions causing freezing/lockups ect

download ssdlife to see what version your running
