I'm not sure which category this belongs in, so in here it goes.

I'm looking to connect a tv display to xbox/ps3/pc which are about 12-15m away (40-50ft).

While ps3 and xbox mostly run 720p, pc runs at 1080p, which pretty much is a requirement for a cable to handle...

So, whats the longest HDMI i can run without repeaters/amps ? Has to handle 1080p and basic sound (no digital/surround)...

#Edit# Clarification: 12-15m calculated cable run, not actual distance to consoles/pc.

0.5 to 10 meters.

I think it goes 20meters for 720p and 10 max for 1080p. From my very little time spent being taught this for 1 class in uni.

You could get a HDMI Switcher, I think these work like repeaters.

No audio expert though :D.

EDIT: Thought I would google it, interesting stuff. Apparently the longest 1080p HDMI cable is 8 meters passive and 12 active, anything else requires amps. It also depends on the type of cable as well, you can get high speed cables desigend for 3d and stuff, very expensive lol.

You could use a repeater half way or 3/4 of the way. I got a couple of repeaters from a well known rainforest named shop for about £4 each and they allowed a rather complicated 2m>switch>coupler>10m>splitter>5m run. I also had a 1080i signal coming through with another 15M on the end. Without the repeater I had a severely messed up and frequent dropping signal. That was 1080p@50 from my PC to HDTV.

These cables that claim to be better for 3D and such that cost £100+ are all marketing scams. This was tested a while ago with a Monster 1200 3m cable against 3 1m daisychained cheapos from the rain forest. As long as its 1.4a and not going further than say 25ft for 3D, cable brands do not matter. The only time you need a decent brand cable is when you are going long distance, like you are. Though in many cases, a cheaper 50ft will still work fine.

Its up to what you would like to spend, you can get a cheap cable and possibly return it to buy a better one if the signal drops below the receivers minimum value.
