Afternoon all,

In my e46 ci I've currently got a BMW business tape player and a cd changer in the boot and was wondering if it is possible to fit a CD player at the front but fit a double din cd player(with screen) that comes factory fitted to some e46's?

I understand that I will have to relocate and climate control panel to above the ashtray. If it is possible is it just a case of swapping it over or would I need to take it to BMW for programming to my car.

Thanks

The screen itself is just that - a screen. It requires a navigation computer in the boot to function and a radio module as well.

It's a big job and it involves several massively overpriced second hand modules. It is nothing like as simple as just sticking a screen in the dash.

Fitting a screen is a job in itself, Fox is right in saying it's a big job to retrofit the factory nav screen, and to be honest it's not worth all of the effort.

99% of double DIN units won't fit without you having to cut bits of the airbox behind the dash, and that itself is a bit of a job.

Best option is to look at the Dynavin/Andrive/Enco drives as these are made to fit the E46.

I see. It's just that I've seen a unit on eBay which says it has a CD player behind the screen

Yes but.. it won't work, as I've explained. It's just a screen (Fitted with either a tape player or a CD player or rarely an MD player). It wont do anything on its own - its controlled by the Navigation computer and the Radio module mounted in the boot.
