What are the best overall coolers at the moment for Ivy? I'd like to narrow it down to about five and then do some research on them. I haven't been following coolers lately and have just been running an old Thermalright True.

Any recommendations?

Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme is the best and also one of the cheapest. Same as normal Silver Arrow SB-E but has 2500rpm fans instead of 1200-1300rpm fans.. and the added rpm means more airflow.. which means more cooling and more noise if you use the extra rpm..but if you don't use the extra rpm and run them below 12-1300rpm they are as quiet as the 1200-1300rpm fan on normal SA SB-E

Also Silver Arrow SB-E, Alpenfohn K2, BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 2, Silverstone HE01

Depending on cpu clearance of your case Archon SB-E X2, Megahalems, new NH-U14S

Loving my SilverArrow SB-E Extreme! Keeping my 3570k very cool, and although I've not overclocked it yet, i can tell it's doing a bloody good job, especially in my sauna of a bedroom.

2 is enough,i ran mine with only one fan for a few weeks, chucked in the second fan and temps are still same as what they were:eek::(

me too but it didn't make any difference,my chip is delidded tho so that might have something to do with it

two fans are plenty, you can always throw in a third if need be

Hmm, just interested to know, my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 at £13 when I got it, seems to do the job for the price, but think temps can decrease with this or something.

My 3770k is running 4.40Ghz on 1.17v and temps seem a bit high on prime midish 70c. I reckon I could decrease the voltage as I only punched in 1.17 and its ran fine since November, so left it.

I might try decreasing the Vs when I get home, I'm happy at 4.4Ghz, then may invest in one of the silverarrows, 1.17 does seem quite good for an ivy at that speed right? I've seen loads of cases where many have had to go over 1.2

yeah aslong as it stable in games, that's where ivybridge tends to be unstable when overclocked, games will crash to desktop if not enough cpu v

As already stated not much difference.

About 2c total difference between one, two and three fans. About 1c drop in temp for each additional fan.. at same rpm. One fan at 750rpm will probably run cooler than 2 fans at 650-700rpm. Similar at higher rpm.

I find BF3 more demanding on the processor than any other game I play, so if you're good with that I'm sure it's stable. :)

I'll decrease the voltage when I get home, see if the CPU can handle it, hopefully, get some better temps.

ASUS HD6850 DirectCU are these voltage locked? Temps are quite high after an intense session on Dayz at the mo (Currently in to this) and I find the auto fan on CCC isn't doing the right job to keeping the temps down, so i'm resorting to ramping the fans up 60% to keep under 60c (Don't mind the noise, headset ftw)

I do have it clocked at almost 900Mhz just by using the sliders within CCC.

tbf I've totally changed the subject, apologies OP.

Have you checked your cooler intake air temp? It's very possible that CPU and GPU cooler hot exhaust air is mixing with intake air making it hotter.. which of course will raise CPU and GPU temps by same amount.

Just a thought.
£4.00 indoor/outdoor or terrarium digital thermometer with wired remote probe is all that's needed.

The case i'm using (Haf X) Does have a 200mm side intake, So I would have thought the card would be getting cool air from that?
