**Not a medical thread!!** :D

A girl at work just sent me this link:

http://www.miraclenoodle.co.uk/default.aspx?skinid=3

My question is how? How have they managed to make 0 calorie noodles? I can imagine that they don't taste very nice tbh considering that they are made with:

The answer to this questions lies in understanding the role of fiber in our diets. Our noodle is made mainly of soluble fiber. Soluble fiber acts to slow digestion. By doing this, it allows for the slower absorption of glucose and is the reason behind its beneficial effects in diabetes.

The soluble fiber found in the Miracle Noodle slows digestion and prolongs the sensation of fullness and is an essential part of any weight loss program. You also absorb more nutrients in the foods you eat with The Miracle Noodle due to the slowing of digestion.

My conclusion that these are actually made with cardboard ...yet this is probably going to be the next big diet trend to hit our shores from the States.

I hate these sorts of sites. The girl who showed me this site is obsessed with loosing weight. One week she is doing the 5/2 fasting plan, then she is counting her cal's and the next she is only eating SlimFast foods. The daft thing is, too look at her, she is doesn't need to loose any weight.

I think that these sorts of sites contribute - a lot - to people getting hooked on loosing weight and getting obsessed with their size and body in a really unhealthy way. Diet pills, supplements, miracle Tea's etc etc.

And the amount of money that people spend on this ****!! A 'Sample' pack of these noodles costs £16.99+ p&p (£2.83) and you only get 2 packs each of their miracle products (2 Angel Hair, 2 Rice and 2 Fettuccini)

IMO all these sites and company's are part of a MISSIVE con and I marvel at the fact that there are still businesses pushing this **** to people and that people are STILL buying them in the belief that they actually work!?

Have any of you been shown/ recommend any highly suspicious diet plans by friends or colleagues?

My advice - eat what you like but dont eat anything to excess. Also try to balance your diet across all food groups. I.E. eat meat, eat vegatables, eat fruit, eat nuts, eat sugar, eat fat e.t.c e.t.c. but don't go overboard on any of them.

simple

These have been around for a while, think they are made of some sort of vegetable.

Can't see them having much, or any, taste.

They can be picked up much cheaper elsewhere and are perfect if you like to limit carbs in your diet but still feel like you're getting something akin to carb heavy noodles or rice.
As with everything they can be a useful tool if used properly.
The problem being most of the general public will just thing OMG 0kcal noodles!!1!!!1!1111 must live on them etc.
They're 0kcal because the body doesn't digest fibre for energy.

I'm type 1 diabetic and I have never even heard of that. I think if it's any good, the high number of dietitians I have seen would have told me by now?

This ^

Perfect example of the point I was trying to make in my Op - I am not entirely convinced that they are all that good!

Any link which immediately starts playing an infomercial at me seems legit.

Also JAPANESE WOMEN have never heard of it eat them so at least the fat redditors will be onboard.

At my work at the moment it's some sort of "shake plan" where they are on 600 calories a day. 4 shakes a day and they contain all the vitamins etc you need. They also have food bars and meals that you can buy. Limited carbs, something about the body going in a state of something or other than burns fat. One girl lost 6lbs in 2 days, it does seem to be working for them....i'm just waiting until they start eating properly again. :D

Hullo friend ^_^

I actually want to try these now, they cant taste worse than pot noodles/ army rations.

Does sound abit odd though, feeling full all day......on 0 calories, hmm.

NHS dieticians? If so the NHS is so massively behind the curve on anything involving nutrition it's stupid.

It never fails to amaze me what people will try to lose weigh rather than just easy sensibly and/or exercise.

Hi Friend :D

Well as some said further up in the thread they might be all right to use in a normal meal to reduce the number of cals, but I would have to find them cheaper than £16.99!!!!!

Well that sounds healthy : /

there does seem to be a tendency amongst women to go for the faddy diets and ignore the fact they're completely inactive... don't play any sports, don't really exercise, drive to places where they could be walking.... just go to work, socialise etc... and generally act in a slothenly manner...

this sort of stuff is even worse than normal as it gives them an excuse to carry on snacking on sugary foods because the 'magic pasta' will supposedly stop it from affecting them

I know an idiot who bought those stupidly over priced noodles and linked them on face book...
I looked at the ingredients and found the exact same noodles sold under some other name for not much more over the price of regular noodles lol...
My ex said she was some in town the other day for a few quid a pack as well

EDIT: they are just Shirataki noodles

nothing special dont go spending $33 on them FFS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shirataki_noodles

They don't even sound nice
Some brands may require rinsing or par-boiling as the water they are packaged in has an odor that may be unpleasant to those not accustomed to it.
Alternatively, the noodles can be drained and dry roasted. This gets rid of the bitterness

Can you expand on this?

For the most part they still work on the food pyramid demonising fats and praising carbs, that alone says that you should take most of what they say with a large dose of salt.

They sell something very similar at Holland and Barretts called "Zero Noodle"

Per 100g Serving:

Energy 4 kcal

Protein 0g

Carbohydrate 1.5g
of which sugars 0g

Fat 0.2g

Fibre 1.4g

Sodium 0g

Zero Noodles are made from Konjac Glucomannan which is a natural soluble fibre produced by the Konjac Plant which is then mixed with water to produce the noodles.

Zero Noodles provide a source of fibre and are an alternative to heavy calorie filled pastas, so that you can still enjoy the foods you love whilst losing weight.
Zero Noodles are relatively tasteless, as is pasta or rice, and absorb the flavour of the food and sauce in which they are cooked in.
